That's pretty incredible that so many folks talk about guitar makers and guitarists but rarely the amp people. It never even occurred to me that he was still alive. I'm going to turn my (*ahemFenderahem*) up to 11 in his honor.

“I went to Jim Marshall, stomped down my 50-watt amp and said, ‘I want that twice as loud,’” Townshend says. “And, almost like Krupps, the famous military manufacturer, Jim Marshall’s eyes lit up. He said, ‘I will supply this man with the weapon he requires.’ And out of that came the Marshall stack and the big amplifiers of the Sixties.”

Jim Marshall is definitely a legend. He was a big band drummer as a musician before starting his music store.

Mitch Mitchell took drum lessons off Marshall and later on worked at his store and from Marshall's shop is where he met Hendrix and ended up in the Experience.

Another interesting fact I remember from reading Marshall's bio a few years back was that the first US musician to take Marshall amps back to the states was Roy Orbison, who used them and liked them on a UK tour in the early days of the brand. I thought that was pretty cool.

May the air forever vibrate from his stacks.
