Thinking About Little Willie John ... And A Few Nice Threads

But no thread about Little Willie John. People seemed to like The Beatles version of "Leave My Kitten Alone" but not always be aware of who did the original. Maybe his brief scene-stealing appearance in the new James Brown bio The One will spark a new interest in him. He has also gotten a recent bio written about him, Fever: Little Willie John, A Fast Life, Mysterious Death and the Birth of Soul, by Susan Whitall, which I haven't finished yet, but highly recommend.

one month passes...

picked up a new 2cd set yesterday that has all LWJ's singles (A's & B's). wanted to replace crappy sounding mp3's and this sounds great. "need your love so bad" is tremendous and i'm not previously familiar with the B-sides but so far so good. and his voice....woah!
vocals are up there with any other r'n'b singer of the late 1950's

Was surprised (and pleased) to hear Jack White cover "I'm Shakin'" on Blunderbuss (although The Blasters' cover was better).

"The Blasters' cover OF IT even. Jack White hasn't covered The Blasters.
