Remixes that are actually cover versions.

I can only think of three or four, off the top of my head.

here are two good ones:

Herbert - The Audience (Jamie Lidell remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNPeDuMlMFw

Metronomy - Corinne (Benoit & Sergio Cover)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6Mj6hs4QXo

but I'm not sure whether the second one even applies since they were possibly asked to cover rather than remix the track.

I know that the Au Revoir Simone vocals were in the original, just barely audible, but I'd still count this for all intents and purposes:

it was that track that got me thinking about this, whether it counts or not.

this is probably stretching the definition

The Tiga remix of Madame Hollywood, i guess.

Une semaine de Bunty (ShariVari), Sunday, 15 April 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

xpost In fact it isn't really a cover at all, it's just a remix with added vocals and new lyrics.

Hot Chip did a few remixes around that time where they restructured the song like that Jnr Boys version. I also loved Tiga's schtick of dropping his own voice in on the title of the song, but Madame Hollywood does take it to cover-level extremes.

Sabres Of Paradise - Haunted Dancehall version off Versus is credited as "In The Nursery Mix" on 7" and "Performed By In The Nursery" on CD

I still don't believe those Au Revoir Simone vocals are on the original

Number None, Sunday, 15 April 2012 23:53 (thirteen years ago)

they're on the chorus.

It's a remix of the Inner City version where he completely replaced the vocals?

The Reverend, Monday, 16 April 2012 01:57 (thirteen years ago)

Isn't it a cover that's actually a cover?

Most of the original synths are intact

The Reverend, Monday, 16 April 2012 02:28 (thirteen years ago)

Aeroplane's version of Paris might qualify

second post in the thread, and a discussion several posts above yours

ehhh I'm not convinced, the synth lines are so buried and filtered that I never considered they might be sampled from the original, let alone actually taken off multitrack, and listening again now I don't hear anything strong enough to be sure

however I'm now going to listen to Big Fun so this afternoon worked out okay

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Monday, 16 April 2012 03:23 (thirteen years ago)

Those are definitely the original synth tones, although Geeneus has manipulated them some. Maybe Finney is correct in his classification.

The Reverend, Monday, 16 April 2012 04:15 (thirteen years ago)

Doesn't Vitalic do this pretty often? I'm thinking "Cish Cash" and "Harder Better Faster Stronger"

myndbloom, Monday, 16 April 2012 06:56 (thirteen years ago)

Freeform Five's remix of Isolée's "Beau mot plage" has some of the original synths (I think), but mostly it's just a band playing the tune with real instruments and vocals.

Tuomas, Monday, 16 April 2012 11:21 (thirteen years ago)

And is lovely.

Tim F, Monday, 16 April 2012 11:22 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I like it more than original.

Tuomas, Monday, 16 April 2012 11:24 (thirteen years ago)

Aphex Twin's Lemonheads remix story to thread. If true.

Touché Gödel (ledge), Monday, 16 April 2012 11:25 (thirteen years ago)

Actually, completely different, forget it.

There's another thread for that phenomenon:

The first occurence of this I remember coming across. I didn't understand why it was credited that way. It's a really good cover too.
