So, I didn't expect much from this pseudo sect project and the first things I heard weren't very convincing... but I got to like "Cochon" and now that I've carefully listened to the whole album, I have to say I find it pretty good and interesting... Of course, it will take a little more time to digest this very baroque opus with all its excesses but I think I will enjoy this a lot !

First highlight, the "coiffeurs" part in "against the law" !

the video for cochon ville is incredibly repulsive and i'm sure it's meant to be but still (also i can't remember the song 2 seconds after the video's over)

ahah, yeah, it's not really a song. more like a dancefloor groove.
but as I've already said on the other thread, the synth riff is an earworm !
I also really like the sound of the bass and funky guitars.
but there are much better tracks on the album, thank (blue) god ! although nothing as good as "roche" or "l'amour et la violence", from "sexuality", so far.

As I already said in the other thread I was a bit disappointed with this when I first heard it but after a few more plays it has really grown on me. Against The Law is indeed the highlight, the last few minutes are just stunning.

Still think it could do with a bit more varity at times but on the whole it's a really beautiful record.

As for Cochon I'm not sure if I really get the video. I love his facial expressions but it does seem to just go for the shock value and not much else. I love the song itself, agree that the synth line is so catchy.

agreed with the slight lack of variety although my first impression when I heard parts of it a few days ago was that it was even less varied than it is ! and thinking about this, I'm not sure sexuality was more varied.
both albums have a kind of production/arrangements guideline and kinda move around it, more or less.

The thing with the lack of varity is it's really obvious on the first three tracks. I remember seeing the Pipito Bleu video earlier in the year and thinking I'd love to hear how it goes into the next track on the album. When I actually listened to that moment I was so underwhelmed when The Colour of Your Mind started with that same plodding beat. That might actually be my least favourite track on the album. Cochon would work better as the second song maybe?

I guess you're right some of the songs on Sexuality are quite similar. I actually really didn't like that album at first, I had it in a plie of things to sell and threw it on for one last go and it just clicked big time.

Really happy this has clicked with me a bit more. I just wish there were more people around like him. Don't suppose you have any suggestions of people who are similar at all?

at one point he's saying "hairdresser for him... for her... for him... but what does it mean this hairdresser thing, it's nonsense ! yes, but it's beautiful !"

I'm a big fan of Politics especially La Ritournelle (probably my favourite song of the last ten years) and Broadway. I didn't really like the first album at all. I really like a lot of the stuff on the Universe compilation, shows a different side to him.

Those lyrics about the hairdresser are great. I showed that live clip of him doing L'amour et la violence to my girlfriend the other day, she did a bit of translation on it for me. It was really interesting hearing what he was singing about.

"L'Amour et La Violence" has about two lines in total, right? Always thought it was a fantastic song let down by half-assed lyrics tbh.

Yeah she said it was mainly the same lines repeated over and over something about his adolescence, then love and violence. It was just cool hearing what it was after listening to that song so many times.

This has grown on me almost everytime I've played it. I went from thinking it was a real disappointment to it being one of my albums of the year.

"My Poseidon" was apparently produced by Guy-Man of Daft Punk, which explains the contrast with the rest of the album (which is also fucking awesome, just not quite so much).

Oh I loved My God is Blue. Took me a few plays to really get into it but so did Sexuality. Some of my favourite production on an album in recent years.

I think Daft Punk were taking notes from the last two Tellier records for RAM.

I really enjoy the album, but I don't really go back to it. There's no killer single on it.

That single is great. The last album was a bit of a dud. Only felt the need to hear it once as it was pretty boring.

When My God is Blue came out I remember thinking, oh great another four years until his next album but here we are with his third album in three years. Just hope this is as good as his best albums. Politics, Sexuality and My God is Blue is such a brilliant run.

The albums either side are well worth hearing. Very different but really good. Sexuality is by far my favourite though.

Anyone else heard the new album yet? I think it's really beautiful and probably the most instant album he's done.

had given up on him but his recent interviews have made me want to check this out

I didn't like the album he put out last year at all but this one is fantastic. The production is excellent and it has much more of a playful feel than the last albums.

Had a hard time getting into it, but thankfully that phase only lasted about 30 hours. After that it's pretty much just bliss. Great, great atmosphere throughout, decent to megalomaniacal (Comment revoir Oursinet!) songwriting, sometimes fantastic musical orchestration (Sous les rayons du soleil etc), goofy disco stuff, it's all there. In terms of a coherent album definitely a step forward again compared to MGIB.

And Ambiance Rio is a superjam for the ages, stuff you edge on golden plates to send into space as a prime example of human culture.

Early days but at the moment it's my second favourite of his after sexuality.

Likely have given the album at least two spins a day, still showing no signs of fatigue, much to the contrary. Only showstopper atm is the chorus of Ricky L'Adolescent, so loud and brash after all this gentleness. Good thing the verses make up for it.

I know nothing about this guy but L'aventura kinda sounds like a new Air album and that's good enough for me

Has this got a UK release yet? It only seems to be available on import at Amazon and as much as I like ST, I'm not paying £17.65 for it.

Looking around it looks like it will be released worldwide on July 14th.

at first I found it quite bad, except "aller vers le soleil" which is brilliant, one of his best songs ever for me.
now I enjoy it more and more.
"l'adulte" is very good. so is "oursinet", the space opera dedicated to his teddy bear, although the 14min are a bit scary at first !
I still need to listen to the whole thing but I get good vibrations from this after all.
and there are some wtf moments, as ever with him.
my favourite is "je vais lui tirer dans la bite" (I'm gonna shoot him in the dick), during "ricky". irl lol when I first heard it !

not sure why I am getting this since I kinda lost interest in the guy after Sexuality. His shtick is starting to bore me and the single did not grab me either, but I liked the promo interviews I've read lately.

Well I wasn't very excited and, as I said, didn't like the album at first but it is actually good. not fantastic but once you're in the "summer apero" mood, it works perfectly !

So, L'Aventura holds up suprisingly well. Partially because it feels so meticulously crafted in a vintage concept album (or its parody) sense from the segue of songs, the integration of the overlong suite up to the artwork, without affecting the songs qualitywise. Aspects in which My God Is Blue didn't really excel imo.
On the other hand he seems to have more or less bottled the promotional aspect of the release with the nearly two months of delay between French and International launch? Could have made millions with selling Ambiance Rio for World Cup trailers, instead 2 ilx postings since June.

Anyway, will see him in Bruxelles in about two weeks. Do Belgian ilxors exist and are attending/up for a La Chouffe there, by any chance?

I wanted to like this album more than I did. I wasn't that keen on her voice and the music seemed like Sebastien was going through the motions in places. The Charlotte Gainsbourg album did this style way better.

That is...an overstatement of its quality. I know that "person who can't sing or speak French tries to sing in French" is a beloved musical genre but this was still unlistenable imo.

Listening to this just now and it feels very much like a Tellier album featuring a guest vocalist, DVT could be anyone. He's on autopilot but to be honest I dont mind, the music sounds as lush as ever and her voice doesn't bother me the way it seems to bother everyone else. I can see why it would seem formulaic and on the verge of self-parody though, I guess I just feel amiable to its charms.

"Fevers And Candies" has got me thinking about how good he would sound working with a singer like Lana Del Rey
