I love this song.

Definitely a big nod to Funkadelic on an album George Clinton produced. Totally a circa-1984 version of the Funkadelic songs taking #shots at "Doofus" and "Earth Wind and No Fire" as part of their Let's Take it to the Stage manifesto of being the best band on earth when it came to performing. This ideal was really influential to the Chili Peppers and Public Enemy (who sampled the fuck out of Let's Take it to the Stage), ultimately two of the best live bands of the 1980s

suidavyvan eht nioj (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 6 May 2012 18:08 (thirteen years ago)

All and said and done, Chili Peppers from 1983 to 1991 has more classics than any of these bands. They really won this war both commercially and critically.

First to the rock and roll hall of fame too, though I suspect Duran Duran can't be too far behind...

is this copypasta or are you actually asserting this

Soft Cell by about a bazillion miles

I'll be pretty surprised if Duran Duran beats H&O to the hall of fame. Figure all those '70s pop-rock acts left out will get ushered in before we bring in low-cred new romantics

da croupier, Sunday, 6 May 2012 21:49 (thirteen years ago)

This sounds like the J Geils Band more than Funkadelic to me

I would pay almost any amount of money to see the Chili Peppers do a club show where they only play pre-1995 music

Whiney, I think it will give you much pleasure to learn that my internal reaction to this was "Man, I just do not get the kids"

Zapp all the way

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 7 May 2012 23:15 (thirteen years ago)

seeing as how Zapp was at the root of Clinton's cross-label empire going kablooey kinda wonder if it wasn't his influence behind the lyrical reference

cuz I kinda doubt Kiedis or Flea would seriously argue they're better than Zapp and Roger

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 7 May 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)

voting RHCP

as for their new shit, jesus wept. I heard 'Look Around' off the new album and it seriously almost put me off my food. They've really gone to Chris Cornell-esque lengths to make me hate them.

I'll totally cosign Whiney's wish for a pre-95 RHCP concert.
