I want to make a list of my fave tracks of the year but I know I'll just fucking forget about 6 that I love, anyway this one storms towards the top. It's not a remix at all really, it's just a fucking new track in its own right, amazing string intro and then the middle is like Discovery, except better. When I say amazing string intro I mean stop your fucking car on the side of the road amazing.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 20 September 2002 10:51 (twenty-three years ago)

ronan, have you picked up the 'i know electricboy' album yet?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 20 September 2002 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

No, should I?

God this track is so unbelievable, why wasn't I going insane about it last week.

(Also in today's "my brother gave me some mp3s" frenzy, I got Vitalic live from somewhere! Live! It's becoming clear that all their tracks are insane in that go insane and tell people to go insane kind of way that La Rock was)

But going back to the track in question, all the above and a riff that sounds like it's from Ghostbusters. This is nothing like the original by the way so even if you hate that throw caution to the wind. I hope you all love it but I have an unreliable history like this.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 20 September 2002 11:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bah! I'm bumping this to say that the 'profound' strings at the start make it the Rob D it's ok to like, the reason being that between the strings is this amazing french house thing.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 21 September 2002 09:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Vitalic = God. But back on topic: yeah great remix, but all of them have been really interesting, I like the Adult one even better, making it a duet between whatshername and Miss Kittin.

And yes Gareth I finally got the Electrikboy album. It's good but at times feels a like study for Kittin and thee glitz.

Omar, Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:12 (twenty-three years ago)

i prefer it to kittenz and thee glitz, although theres some filler on there. i like the vocal tracks (particularly the last 3 which are just really ambivalent and dark). harrison crump is a great vocalist, as is, um, the other one

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

meaning Tyrone Palmer of course

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan, I tried to get in touch on email, but it's bouncing.

nick.K (nick.K), Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

About the Discovery isnt that guitar sampled from a Daft Punk track? I cant remember what is it now, but im pretty sure it is

vic (vicc13), Sunday, 22 September 2002 03:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick, I'll sort it out, try bpm@sortedmagazine.com in the meantime though.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 22 September 2002 08:53 (twenty-three years ago)

two weeks pass...
wow. finally heard this just now (in fact heard it 6 or 7 times in a row - it's that good), and wow. not much i can add to ronan's description, really; totally otm with the ghostbusters riff + also with it being one of the tracks of the year. the last 30 sec where the strings come back are also totally classic.

i so need to get back to england + soulseek and get hold of this vitalic live at fuse mp3, i really do.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

This is really pretty amazing. And that clanky bass sounds like the Misfits!

g.cannon (gcannon), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 12:28 (twenty-three years ago)

The Vitalic thing is just evil, I mean how can they make such unholy rackets with such simple riffs, it's fucking twisted stuff, closest comparison I can make is Daft Punk's live album, I remember listening to it in the rain a few weeks ago and just thinking there is nothing on earth that sounds this raw and hits this part of the brain. I mean I'm a house fan mainly but I think anyone can love this kind of one dimensional psychosis.

Still trying to find out if Jacques Lu Cont produced Madonna's new album, I asked him in Dublin and I thought he said yes but there doesn't seem to any news of it anywhere.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

if its not Jacques then its gotta be Mirwais or possibly Brian Transeau (cos it does sound a bit like N Sync's 'Pop') i reckon...surely not William Orbit cos there arent any whales, dolphins or 'ascending to heaven' pads to speak of ;)

incidentally, have you heard Mirwais' cover of Rolling Stones' 'Miss You' yet? totally rips off his own 'Disco Science' bizarrely and at several points the vocals do not seem to fit with the beat at all - bit of a mess but i still love those mad acid squeals

blueski, Tuesday, 8 October 2002 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

NME.com today says it's Mirwais.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 02:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Gorgeous remix, good call Ronan. Not what I expected from LRD somehow, the retro-electro of that ghostbusters riff perhaps but not those strings and guitar bass.

stevo (stevo), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 09:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
what do i listen to if i want music that sounds like the strings in the intro? michael nyman? penderecki? arvo part? help.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Friday, 26 September 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I've spent the week downloading other Thin White Duke remixes and I've got to say they all rage like muthafukkas. So far I've got "SSSS", "Danger High Voltage", "Hollywood" and The Faint's "The Conductor". Soulseek came up with another Mirwais one but I didn't get it for some reason, is it worth it? Are there others I've missed?

Nick H, Saturday, 27 September 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

mitch try the Rob D or Craig Armstrong albums

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 27 September 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing beats the strings at the start of 'cybele's reverie' for me tho

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 27 September 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick those are mostly the best but try the Psychedelic Waltons one, forget the name of the song. The Mirwais one is pretty cool, not amazing but worth a look, it's a mix of the Mirwais cover of the Rolling Stones "Miss You".

Actually I just remembered another great one is his remix of "Now That The Love Has Gone" by We In Music.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 27 September 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

darn tootin

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 27 September 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I am at this minute downloading the remix of Zoot Woman's Living In A Magazine.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 27 September 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

some LRD remixes i'm not so enamoured with are the ones of Orbital's 'Nothing Left' and Laptop's 'Nothing To Declare' but generally he's dam good at it

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 27 September 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I absolutely LOVE that "Nothing To Decalare" mix.

Siegbran (eofor), Saturday, 27 September 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

what do i listen to if i want music that sounds like the strings in the intro?

Zoot Woman - Hope In The Mirror

Siegbran (eofor), Saturday, 27 September 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
this is still one of the best pieces of music ever.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 14 February 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i can only nod vigorously in agreement

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 14 February 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

(Nods too)

His remix of No Doubt "It's My Life" was a bit disappointing though.

Siegbran (eofor), Saturday, 14 February 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

heard his remix of Starsailor? i don't mind it actually

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 14 February 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I love it, and will always love it.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 15 February 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The Paper Faces remix of Grey Day by Zoot Woman is great. I'm not sure how long he can keep making staticy post punky house records which fluctuate from deep orchestral bassiness to just mid. Maybe he can keep doing it, I'm not bored yet.

Anyone heard the Scissor Sisters mix? It's under the Paper Faces moniker aswell.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 15 February 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard a great bootleg of this remix with the riff from Adamski 'Killer' in a club last year somethie. Does anyone know who did it?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 16 February 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

eight months pass...
revive! I STILL love this and it's starting to get regular rotation in preparation for jacques playing his first dj set in 15 months (or something) at our pokey but swish 200 capacity clubnight.

WOOOOOOO!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i love this so much. never gets old.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa 2002 it's all coming back to me now!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

2002? Jesus, my life's disappearing. OK, before I die, those No Doubt and Starsailor remixes together with the Thin White rework of Aloud's Sex & Sun are three of the year's best - has he done anything else recently?

Mike (mratford), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

What about his Paper Faces remix of "Gem" by Zoot Woman, even better than the above! I wish wish wish he'd make a full Les Rhythmes Digitales album, when he gets a style and sticks to it he's invincible.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

*still* one of the best pieces of music ever. i'm not sure i have anything more to add.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 21 October 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

i love this so much. never gets old.

goole, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

random revival......this was on someone's (mostly rubbish) ipod at a party on Saturday....hadn't heard it in years. still sounds amazing.

Ronan, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

what was the deal with that 'Now That The Love Has Gone' remix anyway? it only seems to be on that Felix Excursions mix and not in the official releases of the We In Music single itself (which had loads of other remixes by Aloud et al also).

blueski, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)

love the beep

winston, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 05:35 (seventeen years ago)

i wish his texas remix was on vinyl. that is still the most amazing thing...

winston, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 05:36 (seventeen years ago)

xp ouch i mean bluski ergh

winston, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 05:36 (seventeen years ago)

winston i think that's a different LRD mix on the single to the one on Excursions but don't know anymore

blueski, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 11:26 (seventeen years ago)

i thiiink that LRD did a remix then felix took that remix, did a little tweaking to it and used that version on his excursions mix. from what i recall the felixified LRD remix is the one to get.

amazing track, that sound seemed to kickstart all the best glittery disco french house songs of the past few years
