Reccomend some JAZZ PROG!

You know - like Soft Machine circa Third through Fifth, some Embryo stuff...basically, psych with Rhodes and jazzy bits (ie no screaming guitar leads or trippy acoustic jams). Stuff that sounds like The Necks but with more attention paid to the effects of the music on, err, dopesmokers. Please don't say Bitches Brew - looking for obscurities here, and less conspicuously 'fusion-y' sounding things. Some of Freddie Hubbard's Red Clay fits the bill here as well...

I know some of these bands but I don't know any of these records! Though I did read about Antelope Freeway in the Blue Note book.

Much to check out - Thanks!

That Caravan track is good. About as Soft Machine as it gets without actually being Soft Machine.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

Some of the Spring Heel Jack + jazz dudes would fit this category, I think -- Masses/Amassed, etc.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

Or that Jaga Jaggist stuff?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 17:30 (thirteen years ago)

that tortoise/jazz dudes show m@tt was raving about last week fits the bill i think.

tylerw, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

Anything by Hatfield And The North, Egg, Gilgamesh or other Canterbury bands I guess. More for drinking tea to than smoking weed though I would have thought.

A++++++ would deal with again (Matt #2), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

Circle - Tower featuring Verde. The jazziest Circle album imo with a ton of Rhodes.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)

Good call on Jaga Jazzist. I wish that Circle album was on Spotify.

It's over there somewhere...I think I saw it last week, but it's behind a bunch of boxes full of stuff.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 18:48 (thirteen years ago)

man I actually have some stuff for this thread, but none of it is on youtube >:( may try to upload some stuff if afternoon is quiet

Dominique, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:09 (thirteen years ago)

I was thinking of the Canterbury scene in answer to this question, too. And some of the horror stuff, yes!
