I always thought that fanfare had something to do with Robin Hood for some reason...

Jump Around.

Jump Around is an awesome song but like an unplanned lunch of a litre of off licence own brand sherry with six cheese and crisp (U.S. trans. chip) sandwiches it's awesomeness comes with a strangely bleak long tail and optimum exposure therefore maximises around the one listen per three years mark.

Although I did hear the intro once and ran onto the dancefloor thinking it was Gustav Holst's Mars, Bringer Of War.

I always took childish glee in seeing indie kids running onto the dancefloor for Loaded by Primal Scream only to be confronted by the most righteous:

I put Harlem Shuffle on a pub jukebox once and saw a group of people about to 'jump' straight after the intro. The deflated look on their face was classic. Hate house of pain, it's the drunk people in a bad night club effect..

mmmm, Friday, 18 May 2012 10:20 (thirteen years ago)

That will always be classic. Never gets old, that one.

As mentioned elsewhere, I used to rather like Jump Around until three abject years of student night hell in Colchester beat it out of me. Every time that fanfare came on, people would clap and cheer as if they hadn't already heard it EVERY FUCKING WEEK that semester, and a little bit of me would die inside.

...in the hope that they will be playing the whole of Dirty Work by the Rolling Stones

Ward Fowler, Friday, 18 May 2012 10:23 (thirteen years ago)

A few times I deejayed in between bands at L'Amour in Brooklyn, I played this song and watched all the metalheads start to thrash it up and then just stop in their tracks when the electronic drums and synths kicked in. Always amusing...

love Jump Around but Harlem Shuffle feels like the best song ever everytime I hear it (which is never on the dance floor btw, it's always Jump Around).

gospodin simmel, Friday, 18 May 2012 10:42 (thirteen years ago)

What kind of metalhead thinks Angel Of Death starts from the breakdown? Tsch.

Ima Skim Read That Bitch (Doran), Friday, 18 May 2012 10:50 (thirteen years ago)

Dude, it's the riff... You hear that riff and you just lose it. It's Pavlovian...

six cheese and crisp (U.S. trans. chip) sandwiches

the U.S. translation of this is actually "taco bell"
