Inspired Theft

what be your favourite musical steals? stuff that may or may not be just downright nicked -
but where the similarities are undeniable, regardless of wether they're acknowledged, or even intentional (which they usually probably are).

i like interstellar overdrives pinching of the steptoe theme.
and noel gallagher and brian wilson are fantastic at it... so brazen yet brilliant. i'm not sure if its intentional, but my mum has a video of this one-off programme she taped off the telly one year in the eighties. a christmas programme called 'dusty the snowman', in which a snowman with a broad yorkshire accent sings a very melancholic about not being able to find father christmas. there's a bit about finding 'santa claus under the star' which is identical to the chorus of 'the fear' by pulp. i often wonder if jarvis heard it and nicked it...
he blatantly nicked the beginning of 'don't let him waste your time' from 'only i know' by dion.

I've never heard Pulp but I'll be sure to check them out

oh they're really good! they did that song 'parkhurst' with paul daniels about feeding the pigeons and all that. the singer seems a bit of a woofter though, in my opinion.
