i know our dear friend Steven Tyler doesn't like us to draw too much attention to the fact that he posts to the board or involve him in discussions of his day job, but i hope he will participate in this thread about the new album out in August, and the Get A Grip outtake "Legendary Child" that was debuted as the album's lead single on last night's American Idol finale:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoDk7nIVuHc
― some dude, Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:54 (thirteen years ago)
the other dimension is people who still watch/care about "american idol" right?
― fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)
this is a thread about Aerosmith and American Idol is the thing you're gonna make "lol that is so last year" jokes about?
― some dude, Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)
as opposed to, say, Steve Tyler jokes
― go down on you in a thyatrr (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)

Get A Grip outtake
God we were such a good band once. And now I'm fucking rich, and we're ripping off Gang of Four of all people, somebody slap me this can't even be real
― cosi fan whitford (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)
legendary child is pretty good!
steven, i wish you would have taken better care of your voice, it hurts me to say that to such an esteemed ilxor.
we didn't give a....wo-ah, wooo-ah...woaah!
― wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:16 (thirteen years ago)
woah gang of four coined the phrase "get a grip"? had no idea
― some dude, Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:18 (thirteen years ago)
So I guess they were warming up by playing "The Wanton Song" and just decided to neuter, add a lamer chorus and call it a day.
― grandavis, Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:20 (thirteen years ago)
Uh, "neuter it".
― grandavis, Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:21 (thirteen years ago)
haha wtf at blatant Zep ripoffery
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:24 (thirteen years ago)
They must have thought that "The Wanton Song" is such a deep cut that no one would notice. Didn't they see the results of the poll?
― grandavis, Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:34 (thirteen years ago)
tyler quotes himself less than a minute into the first verse

Is "We All Fall Down" about Tyler's recent slip and fall in the bathroom or hwatever he said it was?
― chr1sb3singer, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:06 (thirteen years ago)
doesn't xhuxk rep for latter-period aerosmith? I get off the boat after "draw the line" and never look back
― cosi fan whitford (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:11 (thirteen years ago)
I go as far as Night in the Ruts.
― 誤訳侮辱, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)
xhuxk shits on Pump, which has always been heartbreaking to me because if ever someone was gonna have my back on loving that album it'd be him
― some dude, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)
will there be a liv tyler/alicia silverstone reunion video
― tylerw, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)
she had a mini-clueless reunion with the god jeremy sisto recently on suburgatory, maybe she's feeling nostalgic
― some dude, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:16 (thirteen years ago)

― Soccer mom, hopeless and lost, in utter despair (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)
Chaka Khan's catsuit was better than all of the above

Does it seem strange that this is only their 15th studio record? I feel like they should have way more albums then that

street jesus
― wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)
man, looking at their run from 73-76, if they had broken up right then they'd just be THE great american rock n roll band of the 70s! obv those records are still great, but the legacy has been sullied.
― tylerw, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:44 (thirteen years ago)

― da croupier, Friday, 25 May 2012 12:12 (thirteen years ago)
unless it's a chickenfoot cover
I've come back to this thread three or four times now with the sole intention of making fun of Aerosmith, and each time ... I just got nothing to add.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 25 May 2012 14:17 (thirteen years ago)
doesn't xhuxk rep for latter-period aerosmith?
Only if Done With Mirrors counts (which I doubt it does). And "Jaded."

I quite like the cover.
Uh, that's about all I have to say.
― Sean Carruthers, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 02:20 (thirteen years ago)
Pump sounded pretty good in a car last summer! I'd loved it when I was a kid and then completely neglected it, even disdained it outright, for a really long time.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 02:50 (thirteen years ago)
"The Other Side" holds up pretty well as radio pop imo.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 02:52 (thirteen years ago)
If you're out to bro down over Nels Cline and Aerosmith records, I'm your guy.
(Not sure what to think of this new thing though.)

album pushed back till november...
"It's pushed back because too many people are releasing those weeks, and we don't want to step on their release dates," said Tyler. "So we said, 'You know what, we got the goods, ain't no doubt about [it], we'll wait a couple months.'"

I don't mean to give too much of the aerosmith game away here but remarks like the one I made to Rolling Stone, quoted by upper mississippi above, are almost always lies cloaking some other truth in re: the record
― perry en concrète (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 10 July 2012 21:44 (twelve years ago)

perry's solo is kinda random and cool sounding
― wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:02 (twelve years ago)
imo a LOT of Joe Perry solos are kinda random and cool sounding, he has this rep as whatever blooze rocker Keith Richards wannabe etc. but so often his tone and his note choices are really left field and interesting to me.
― some dude, Monday, 16 July 2012 20:06 (twelve years ago)
Tyler's voice didn't even sound bad exactly (or at least no worse then you would have guessed it would be at this point) he just sounds totally bored and uninterested.
― chr1sb3singer, Monday, 16 July 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago)
not as bored and uninterested as i was listening to this

"Fueld by love for music and spirited beans"
"Spirited Beans" is code for coke right?

giving this a shot. "luv xxx" sounds so plodding and tired but "oh yeah" is kinda good! blaming the horns and the gospel choir
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 18:49 (twelve years ago)
"beautiful" has sort of that alternating rock/blues workout verses and psychedelic chorus that they've done on a few songs, i'm sure. only one i can remember is "sunshine" which means i'm the only person who has ever remembered "sunshine"
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago)
okay "tell me" is legitimately a very good psychedelic beatles-ish ballad. more evidence that you should let the bassist write the songs
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago)
god this album is already too long
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 18:57 (twelve years ago)
"if you want a little nookie cookie"
"roses are red, violets are you"
okay i am very close to never listening to aerosmith again
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 19:00 (twelve years ago)

lol
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 19:08 (twelve years ago)
you know what i'd probably totally accept "what could have been love" in my life had it been sung by like kelly clarkson. whatever we're about to enter sub-blueshammer territory with "street jesus" apparently
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 19:15 (twelve years ago)
wait no wait when the actual riff kicks in it's totally "draw the line"-ish, okay i'm into this

― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago)

― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago)
but you know what's sort of delightfully batshit? "another last goodbye." tyler histrionics against a weird minimal backing
the good songs on this record would've made a nice ep
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 20:30 (twelve years ago)
"another last goodbye" - that should be Dr. Morbius' motto
― Faster than food (Myonga Vön Bontee), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 20:34 (twelve years ago)
bonus tracks are mostly useless except for "oasis in the night," a total surprise from perry
