http://jesu.bandcamp.com/album/jesu-picture-disc-mix-unreleased-original-vision This is the master that was NOT used for what became the Picture Disc Mix, this was intended to be the master, but was shelved last minute; this master was intentionally sampled at a higher rate, so as to achieve a 'pop' sound / production, unlike the mix to be found on the 'actual' jesu Self Titled, a move which would be an absolute travesty for some! And a move that was decided against at the last minute, so the master was resampled back to the original pitch and sent to be pressed as the Picture Disc. So, this master is unreleased, and available here for the first time, the 'actual' Picture Disc master, is also available here at Bandcamp. The Picture Disc of the Self Titled Jesu album, was remixed entirely for the LTD ED Picture Disc version (1000 copies), released in 2006. An Alternative mix with quite significant differences to the original album mix; the concept was to remix it more 'cleanly', due to the original mix containing a lot of distortion. There are still clicks, etc in this mix though due to the nature of the original recording. Here, the album is now remastered in 2012, since the original Picture Disc master was intentionally mastered flat. The catalyst for this entire remix of the album was the pressing plant who were to cut and press the picture disc - with the original master of the S/T, they claimed the original was to max'ed out and distorted to be cut to an picture disc! I was, at the time, intrigued by the concept of a cleaner, and even 'poppier' mix of this album, anyway, so set about cleaning the the thing up. Hence the re-sampled higher speed version; attempting to go even further with this 'pop' concept. For the record, my personal favourite mix of this album IS the original mix, which is known, universally, as the debut jesu album 'S/T', the mix that made it to CD/Vinyl, etc, etc. Justin K Broadrick. Surprised Ned hasn't posted this here already. 96 space rock/psych/electronic/experimental/what-have-you tracks from folks like Roy Montgomery, Windy and Carl, ST37, Primordial Undermind, Subarachnoid Space, et al. Thirty bucks for I don't know how many hours of music. This was conceived as a tribute recording to critic/fan/good egg Lee Jackson, who died earlier this year at a very young age.
Disclaimer, The Roswell Incident (featuring the full original lineup of myself and Elvis Telecom) is on the album. Money from the sales price goes to funding ALS (Lou Gherig's Disease) research.

tags are "alternative r&b/soul detroit." i'm hearing shades of 80s streetsoul in the music and the 90s neosouler adrianna evans in the vocals. but all filtered through a dreamy chillwave lens. check out "warm guns" for a resonating wash. my only regret is not hearing it in time to nom it for best of 2024.

no clue what's going on here. singer from pretoria, johannesburg wants $30 for a digital download of a 20 minute ep...
...thing is, the music jams pretty hard. complete 90s revival, from convincing american r+b beats, through 2-step streesoul and triphop reminiscent sounds. it all culminates in the final track "where?" ― pure layered haze and soundtracked breakbeats; apparently she's doing most of this herself. it's also on streaming platforms if that price is outside of your budget.
big recommend.

Please note: Starting summer 2025 Bandcamp will begin transitioning to a new payment system powered by Stripe. This new system is set to roll out in phases, but at the end of this transition PayPal will be removed completely and will no longer be a payout option. To ensure a smooth transition and avoid any interruptions to your payouts, we recommend updating to the new payment system as soon as possible.

My reading: This does not mean they will no longer allow people to buy things with PayPal. It means that people like me who sell music there will no longer get paid via PayPal; we'll get direct bank deposits from Bandcamp instead.

Yeah I sell music there too (though very little) - I get paid from Patreon through something called Payoneer, which is fine except they do take a (relatively small) cut.

Stripe is just a payment processor that allows you to use a number of types of payment. I have no idea if the types of payment allows are set by the sellers, but it takes credit cards, etc. https://stripe.com/payments/payment-methods
unless you're really wedded to PayPal, this seems like it could provide more options for making payments, no clue about receiving

I still can't quite seem to find the source of it all, but lots of chatter on Bluesky today that there's been issues with Stripe blocking the sale of explicitly LGBTQ (not just "explicit" as in adult) items and lots of folks threatening to abandon Bandcamp if this goes through.

I have a small dilemma, maybe y'all can help me figure out what to do.
I bought a couple vinyl LPs from an artists' Bandcamp page. The artist was super committed to DIY ethos, but did work with small labels and stuff - some labels that no longer exist, some that still do. But I ordered directly from the artists' page, not a label page.
The artist passed away not long before I placed the order. I figured it was risky that my order would be filled, but thought maybe there would be someone on the other end handling the business stuff, still.
But, of course, I have received no records. I knew this was a possibility and am prepared to just eat it and move on, but I'm wondering if y'all think I should do just that, or file some sort of claim through Bandcamp or what?
I have zero idea where my money went. If I knew it went to helping the artists' family or a particular cause, I wouldn't even think much about this. But if it's just sitting somewhere doing nothing ... I wouldn't mind getting it back and trying to buy the records a different way?
I dunno ... thoughts?

Honestly, I posted it here in the hopes that smart ilxors might know more about it.
FWIW, I also saw it on Reddit, multiple people reported calling Stripe and being told be different reps that it is “officially company policy” not to allows the sale of LGBTQ material.
Since I posted earlier, Stripe has issued a statement denying this policy, which is great news! But maybe they should tell their service reps! Either they are folding under backlash or inconsistent with their policies.
Regardless, I think it’s worth paying attention to in a time when LGBTQ friends are being denied their existence in ways big and small. So hopefully this amounts to nothing, but I’d be very disappointed if this sort of policy applied to my bandcamp purchases.
― better than ezra collective soul asylum (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 13 August 2025 23:42 (five months ago)
Yeah, if it comes from a reputable source a boycott of them and maybe any business who continues using them is a no-brainer.
― beard papa, Thursday, 14 August 2025 00:22 (five months ago)
Stripe's probably the payment processor that's handling this entire mess the worst, with customer support reps that are giving incorrect or contradictory answers. I'm pretty sure this is the same thing that's affecting Steam (to a lesser extent) and itch.io where an Australian (!) group lobbied for banks/credit card companies to crack down on allowing the sale of nsfw, typically sexual content, on sites they claim cater to children. Steam's big and just delisted content, itch.io is smaller and it's harder for them to figure out what should be labeled/delisted so it's currently the focal point and people have been calling Mastercard/Visa/etc to file complaints, along with Stripe. It's not a Stripe-specific issue.
The main issue with swapping to exclusively Stripe seems to be that they don't serve as many countries. Bandcamp's seemingly been pretty radio silent on the whole thing, probably because they just dropped the announcement and didn't think it through.
afaict this is all downstream of other things, like the aforementioned pressure group, the UK requiring age verification, etc. and not anything specific to Stripe/Bandcamp.

I think part of it is that people are looking for new reasons to get angry at or bounce from bandcamp and are feeling out what the next most viable platform might be. I get it, the sale of Bandcamp and the layoffs were bad and I'll gladly throw my money somewhere else, but I don't think this is going to be a turning point because it's tangential.

It's been interesting to see places like Bandcamp and Discogs posting updates saying, essentially, "hey, don't freak out, recorded music is exempt from these tarriffs". Which, granted, from a business standpoint they want to keep people shopping but while that is technically true, that doesn't really matter when entire countries have paused shipping to the US anyway - exemption for records is a moot point due to the rest of the shitshow.
On the other hand, I did see two labels post that they think they'll have more clarity about shipping to the US next week.

yeah, the thing about the exemption is, like, sure, but there's never been a mail delivery service in my lifetime that, even in the best of times, ran super efficiently, due to the thousands of middlemen and bureaucrats in the chain of command who we rely on to use their discretion and best judgement. And now we're adding this clusterfuck, so I imagine a lot of people are just going to say, "why bother," because it's not worth the headache of navigating forms and paying crazy fees and hoping a thing arrives. I can't say I blame them, I'd probably do the same, at least until this is sorted out.
I'm worried about the non-US stuff I pre-ordered months ago, but I guess it won't be the end of the world if it gets cancelled. I do know that if I can't order records from the UK and Europe, the amount of money I spend on music is about to decrease rather significantly

Seems like one answer is simply buying MORE records! This from Heavy Psych Sounds (one of the labels I dearly would miss):
SHIPPING UPDATE!!! For orders of five records or more we always ship UPS and deliveries via UPS have not been affected by tariffs. For single orders up to five records, most postal services (including ours) have suspended shipping to the US (which ultimately is delivered by USPS) until they figure out how to handle the tariff situation (we should be getting updates next week). We will update you again as soon as we are notified of a resolution. We appreciate your patience with this and thank you very much for your understandingEdit: Just to be clear our US store is located in the US. If you placed an order from our US store their have been no delays/problems

My pre-order from El Paraiso for the new Edena Gardens appears to have juuuuust snuck in in time. My pre-order for the new Wucan record is "on hold for the foreseeable future", but the email the label send was super kind and offered me the option to cancel for a full refund. I'm holding out for now.

Anyone joining these?

I signed up for the jazz and global beats ones - ironically the latter's selection this month is also jazz.

are they any good and do you get to ‘keep’ the selections when your sub ends?

This tariff bullshit makes it so frustrating. Woke up to two emails about new pre-orders I'd really like to get, so I hop over to Bandcamp to pick them up. The first is from a label that will no longer ship to the US at all (says the same on their label website), the second would cost $32 to ship a $16 CD to the U.S.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but it's just one more example of how everything is just shittier right now.

yep, I've had the same frustration. Most recently, wanted to get the Piotr Kurek LP after reading Phil Sherburne's great review, only to find that it isn't shipping to the US. Ugh
I also have yet to receive my Real Lies LP I ordered from the band, though I'm not entirely convinced those have actually shipped

I'd like to point people to my friends' band from the late 90's, the Sunshine Club, who finally got their 2 albums (plus an album of unreleased stuff) up on bandcamp 25 years later. RIYL Red House Painters, Spinanes, American Music Club, other 90's slowcore things. These records are amazing, band never got their due.

nice to see it

I think it's purely symbolic, because I don't think there's a lot of slop on Bandcamp (?) and people who actually go to the trouble of buying music to support artists are probably not going to be inspired to do so by AI slop. And of course a lot of legit artists are going to be using AI as part of their music in ways that are not detectable (sampling from AI split or generated stems, writing tools, voice changing like on that last Caribou album - this might be the most controversial, wonder if they would ban it?). But I do appreciate the sentiment, since the whole point is to support human musicians (and to set themselves apart from Spotify etc).

I don’t think it’s purely symbolic but it’s not idealistic/altruistic either. It’s “we are intentionally going to banhammer all you lo-fi chillout clowns building your endless loops with slop prompts” because otherwise the platform would be overwhelmed with trash and people would be unable to find anything good in amongst all the wrong kind kind of noise
― trm (tombotomod), Thursday, 15 January 2026 22:18 (one week ago)
yeah i've already noticed an uptick in bots following me that just have, like, a couple obv slop albums in their collection
hopefully merzbow gets the memo and chills on the genAI artwork

Lol, I did say last night that if they were banning anything with AI art, I wouldn't want to know what percentage of albums would be vaporized.
I was wondering if slop albums had infiltrated BC, I guess it was inevitable that people would try, but I basically only see pages that I already follow or go to specifically.

There's a ton. Every time I do a search for new jazz releases, 2/3 of the feed is obvious slop.
