gareth (gareth), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

couldn't find a better pic

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:34 (twenty-three years ago)

i wanted to find that picture where the sea had retreated and there were rusting ships just on the dry former sea bed, and there was a town, a former fishing village and its seafront just looked out onto nothing becuase the sea had gone

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I think that might have been the Aral Sea, for example this:

or this:

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 21 September 2002 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

yes david, i believe you might be right. kazakhstan? anyway, we're not making much headway are we? piano magic - a trick of the sea made me think of the idea, but things don't necessarily have to sound like that. they have to sound like davids pictures look

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 21 September 2002 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Boards Of Canada, Brothom States, Plaid and the usual Warp suspects are soundtracking those images on first impression

blueski, Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

You could always be literal and put "Caspian See" by Felt on there.

Rob M, Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

The Ural Choir - Canon of the Holy virgin; Thou who hast crossed the sea with a dry foot
(of course, i searched for this & haven't actually heard it, but still...)

willem (willem), Saturday, 21 September 2002 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Kerker are Kurds from Azerbaijain and they're great.

Nusrat Fateh ali Khan, obviously - mix live/studio/remix and michaael brooks collaboration

But I've been there and the thing that worked best (crossing the Arals from Tehran to the Caspian) was Underworld - Pearl's Girl.

jon (jon), Sunday, 22 September 2002 07:33 (twenty-three years ago)
