The is the cover that Amazon and a few other places are now showing, nice enough font but hoping it's just a place-holder:

think i preferred the lettering placeholder.

mark e, Monday, 23 July 2012 19:36 (thirteen years ago)

okay I love this song

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 23 July 2012 19:39 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that song is lovely. what is so nsfw about that picture? a bared buttock?

mod night at the oasis (NickB), Monday, 23 July 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

okay lol @ that album cover, tbh I much preferred her "I put everything in my grandmother's closet on" efforts

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 23 July 2012 20:04 (thirteen years ago)

although maybe that dude was also in her grandmother's closet

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 23 July 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, what's NSFW about that?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 00:59 (thirteen years ago)

I'm pretty tired of non-stop stories, videos, press releases, whatever, simultaneously boasting and warning of being "NSFW." Really, the whole internet is "NSFW," so shut up about it and go about your business.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 01:00 (thirteen years ago)

New song is lovely. Tori-aping still present but this time with some vague 80s power ballad/"Life on Mars" tinge to it that works well with the spare arrangement.

Turangalila, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 02:44 (thirteen years ago)

?

I have never once thought of Tori Amos when listening to Bat for Lashes.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 04:30 (thirteen years ago)

Ludo, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 06:50 (thirteen years ago)

wait
it's his arm

that cover confuses me

eh I guess some folks have bosses who wouldn't accept "it's the artwork for the new Bat for Lashes album" as an instantly plausible excuse for why you were looking at a photo of two naked ppl, and as such would rather have the option of avoiding that scenario altogether

price lo matalan (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 09:27 (thirteen years ago)

Johnny Fever, really? Even when, say, Pearl's Dream is basically Tori's "Girl" + "Raspberry Swirl"? There's a lot of other examples which I think also Tim F brought up in some other thread. It's not a bad thing! But to my ears, definitely there.

Turangalila, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 12:25 (thirteen years ago)

Got to agree with Johnny, Tori Amos hasn't ever crossed my mind when listening to BFL. The Cure, that's a different story...

I honestly don't see how Tori Amos couldn't cross your mind

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:24 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, exactly. It's everywhere in her music, really.

Turangalila, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:25 (thirteen years ago)

I try not to think about Tori Amos where possible.

fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:28 (thirteen years ago)

Her first four albums are fantastic, tbh.

Turangalila, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:30 (thirteen years ago)

Anyway, back to Bat For Lashes...

fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:35 (thirteen years ago)

I would be playing this song on repeat if I hadn't just discovered Nightwish

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:36 (thirteen years ago)

What are you doing instead?

Ignite the seven canons (Ówen P.), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:44 (thirteen years ago)

I am listening to Wishmaster and boggling incessantly

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:45 (thirteen years ago)

Nightwish sounds like some sort of bedwetting remedy you buy from the chemist.

mod night at the oasis (NickB), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

"Moon and Moon" is probably the most Tori-like song by a person who is not actually Tori Amos that there ever was. And I say this as someone who regularly gets annoyed at people collapsing the differences between female artists. But it struck me more as a point on a trajectory for BFL more than a debilitating permanent resemblance.

I really like this new song.

Tim F, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 11:40 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

Laura sounds a lot like Working Class Hero doesn't it?

I guess maybe it's like Don't Look Back in Anger/Imagine maybe Lennon just did a lot of chord stuff that's universal... Is there a thread for songs that sound like other songs?

i've heard all of this and it's great

"a wall" is one of her best songs, i love the hounds of love style backing vox

standouts would be that, laura, lilies, marilyn and the closer

monotony, Wednesday, 10 October 2012 11:00 (twelve years ago)

oh yeah, oh yeahhhhhhhh

ciderpress, Sunday, 14 October 2012 15:29 (twelve years ago)

Why aren't all her songs as good as Laura? It's really annoying.

Matt DC, Monday, 15 October 2012 08:55 (twelve years ago)

Cos it's the only one she wrote with the "Video Games" dude? And then only duress, at the request of her label? Strike one to The Man.

Stevie T, Monday, 15 October 2012 09:05 (twelve years ago)

^under duress

Stevie T, Monday, 15 October 2012 09:06 (twelve years ago)

is that true? its a good song nonetheless

ciderpress, Monday, 15 October 2012 13:20 (twelve years ago)

Just found the whole album on Spotify

ornamental cabbage (James Morrison), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 04:27 (twelve years ago)

xp The record label said she needed to go off and write a single but Natasha chose Justin Parker so there wasn't that much duress involved. Good call, The Man.

I assumed Parker was some young LA hotshot but apparently he's an ex-footballer from Lincoln.

Get wolves (DL), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 09:28 (twelve years ago)

how is she live? she's playing here the night of my bday and I wonder if it's worth skipping the usual bday shenanigans to see her

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 10:17 (twelve years ago)

I saw her a while back and she was great. Does she still have the girl from ... Ash, was it? Pink hair, I think?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:17 (twelve years ago)

Charlotte Hatherley! Who is now making music under the name "Sylver Tongue" which is a bit Little-Boots-goes-indie and is the support act on the tour.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:40 (twelve years ago)

Fantastic set in Edinburgh the other night. Now she has three albums to drawn on there's no filler. Highlights were Laura (obviously) and the Daniel/Pearl's Dream encore.

Get wolves (DL), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 17:24 (twelve years ago)

"Laura" is pretty amazing; I kind of wonder what a different arrangement and singer would do for "Video Games" given how much I like the former and hate the latter

Gandalf’s Gobble Melt (DJP), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 18:42 (twelve years ago)

Lots of these beats sound Dan Snaith-y in some of their subtleties.

yup

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 15:10 (twelve years ago)

Brighton show was fantastic, last date of the UK tour playing her adopted hometown and it felt like there was a great deal of warmth between Natasha and the audience. Laura was flat-out amazing, you could have heard a pin drop, but really she puts together a great set entirely now. Only complaint is that that 80% of the crowd were an absolute bunch of stiffs during the dancier numbers.

Albert Crampus (NickB), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 15:37 (twelve years ago)

damned if i can remember the last time i listened to a record twice in the same day.
