this is also the thread where we celebrate their magnificent sleeve design (which is up there with Night Slugs and Captured Tracks and Acephale for best in the world right now). I mean:

Search Franco Falsini "Cold Nose" and Robert Turman "Flux" reissues. Haven't heard any of their other stuff yet. What's bad about the Hive Mind? Or are you just not a fan of his style?

MSOTT album is great! I really like the Container record too which is kind of synth noise-meets-techno, lots of ferocious whirling beats that demand to be played at head-crushing volume.

Also like the Franco Falsini reissue, which was totally new to me. Had never heard of his band Sensations Fix before either, but they're a pretty good 70s krautrockish Italian prog band. Bunch of their albums on Spotify, I've listened Finest Finger a fair bit, mostly cos I liked the name and the cover art. Dunno which is their best one.

Something I'm interested to hear that's coming out soon is the Toka Yasuda (Blonde Redhead etc) solo album made under the name Plvs Vltra. Was really disappointed with the last BR record but this is supposed to be more of an electropop thing.

generally more hit than miss for me. forma and bee mask are my favs.

One thing I wonder about is the economics of a label like this. They seem to have put out a ton of releases in a very short space of time and none of them strike me a records that are going to sell a whole load. How the heck do they do it? Or am I underestimating the market for this sort of thing?

Zaireeka Badu (NickB), Monday, 18 June 2012 23:01 (twelve years ago) link

Good question. They're a sublabel of Mego, right? Though that leads to more questions, it's not like Fennesz or whoever is selling millions either...

recordbreaking transfer to Lucknow FC (seandalai), Monday, 18 June 2012 23:05 (twelve years ago) link

theyve sold out of p much every release so far i think? so theres some kinda market for this stuff...

best record is the forma one i think but i really, really like the human teenagers record too. pov is probably something like: forma, human teenager, headboggle, container, enh i cant really rep for any after that. oh n/m the driphouse is a rerelease of a tape i liked i think? the only ones i think are total misses are the franco falsini rerelease which is just so fucking corny and the hive mind one.

jamescobo have you tried fucking with nna tapes at all? they have tighter design work and better qc imo

Lamp, Monday, 18 June 2012 23:36 (twelve years ago) link

god if I ever take the plunge into the tape scene I'll end up spending myself into a home under a bridge within six months

There are no "destroy" albums from this label whatsoever. Great label.

van smack, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 03:19 (twelve years ago) link

Didn't they reissue that Robert Turman thing? Classic for that alone.

Ah, I did not know that. You're talking about the vinyl I guess? Good luck to them in that case. All my Spectrum Spools consumption is via Spotify and then I've bought a few things that I've really liked through emusic for buttons basically (MSOTT, Container, Soft Coast). It obviously isn't on my account, but if their coffers are swollen, that's good news.

Oh, that PLVS VLTRA album is up Spotify now. It's very un-Spectrum Spools-y, on first listen it's like an electroid j-pop version of that Charlotte Gainsbourg album.

Can't wait for the Gary War album they're putting out soon.

Ok I must hear this now.

recordbreaking transfer to Lucknow FC (seandalai), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:32 (twelve years ago) link

Ha, I might be wrong about the Charlotte G comparison, the first track led me astray! It's weird, it flits between pretty straight-up Kylie-ish pop moves (Sunkissed) and much noisier electronic stuff (Like Spice).

gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:35 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah it touches on a bunch of playful electro comparisons - OOIOO, John Hughes "Reset the Warehouse", Shibuya-kei, Mouse on Mars, Sapphire Slows...pretty good so far.

recordbreaking transfer to Lucknow FC (seandalai), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:54 (twelve years ago) link

I not sure whether it's good or what at the moment, but it's definitely got 5,000 times more sparkle to it than the last Blonde Redhead lp.

since there is no dedicated NNA thread I will respond here with the update that I have gotten ridiculously into NNA in the last few months. the Golden Retriever & Pulse Emitter ones (plus the Carlson LP) are my faves so far but everything I've heard on there so far has been at least good. I even like the Drainolith tape!

Does anyone know if their vinyl releases include a download code? The Editions Mego site has a "promo code" link on each release's page, but I can't get a confirmation anywhere...

muus lääv? :D muus dut :( (Telephone thing), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 00:22 (eleven years ago) link

As far as I know, they don't include the download code.

van smack, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 00:40 (eleven years ago) link

Aw. Ah well, not like mp3s are hard to get; it's just a convenience thing. I finally got a chance to pick up a few of these on vinyl for a reasonable price, and they're so gorgeous I couldn't pass it up.

wrt to Bee Mask - I missed out on his earlier tape releases so cannot say much about those, but I cannot recommend the Elegy For Beach Friday compilation and Vaporware / Scanops LP highly enough.

oh I know all about Bee Mask, but Dozzy is new to me. I just picked up the Voices of the Lake LP; will check those out next. thx!

I'd also recommend Dozzy's Roma mix - http://www.electronique.it/podcastA3163C10_Podcast_Donato-Dozzy_E-P--200---Roma

Rewoven enough that extracts were released as tracks.
