Inspired by talk on the Peaking Lights thread by WCCheesecake with regards to often preferring 'fake' dub to 'real' dub, which I think I do, generally. Whilst I love a bit of King Tubby or Augustus Pablo, I think I often prefer it when some shitty band or techno bod or trendy synth duo or whoever lay a big fat dubby bassline and some stereo effects down.
So let's make a playlist.
Higher Than The Sun (A Dub Symphony In Two Parts) - Primal ScreamConstantinople - EchoboyRematerialsed - Death In VegasOne Big Family (Perfecto Remix) - Embrace

Some of these are just plain ol' reggae rather than dub, aren't they? Maybe dub is a more inclusive term than I thought.
Anyway, Blind Idiot God - Dead Continent Dub, Clockwork Dub, Major Key Dub, Dubbing the Sinai
Jamie Saft - Vesamcheynu Dub, Aveira Dub, Kasha Dub, Fresser Dub

Most UK alt-rock CD singles from the 90s seemed to include a 'dub' remix as a b-side.
― I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 18 June 2012 13:52 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, some of these are just reggae rather than dub; I think, if it's not instrumental or largely instrumental, that there needs to be some serious stereo-effects and studio trickery. So I reckon lazarus counts, for that big intro, but maybe Upon 9th and Fairchild doesn't...

been ages since i heard it, so could be time to dig in the archive.
oh, and imho the franz ferdinand 'dub' album aint all that - its not really dub in the reggae sense of the word, just f*cked up versions without vocals ..
another indie does dub thing was the extra dub disc, space invader dub, that came with the dead 60s debut album which i listened to a lot more than the album proper.

Things a tune needs in order to be fake dub:
1. A massive bassline2. Clouds of ambience3. Loads of stereo FX and frippery and stuff4. Little emphasis on vocals, if not completely instrumental5. Groovy as fuck6. Really strun-out
It should not:
1. Just be a tune with a big / good bassline2. Just be a reggae song
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 08:11 (thirteen years ago)
Strung-out, obviously.

Was going to add "Champion Doug Veitch" here.
A sort of Billy Bragg type that did Country/Reggae 'fusion' style, was thinking particularly of "Jumping into love" b-side, I dunno how many of the 6 needs it fulfils, but hey-ey-ey
