The Lexicon of Love is probably my favourite album of all time but really want to vote for Sulk as it's is up there too and probably needs the votes.

These lists are just full of amazing albums. Thriller, 1999, The Dreaming, Too Rye Ay, Pornography, Rio, New Gold Dream and You Can't Hide Your Love Forever are all classic too.

These would be my #1 and #2 for the year. From the list, I don't think I have a vote--the monuments at the top never meant all that much to me at the time, and they mean less now.

Miami and Under the Big Black Sun were my other two favourite albums that year; Trans was the one that horrified me.

XTC! With apologies to Laurie Anderson and Kate Bush. I might even like their albums better as a whole, but I grew up near the Settlement pictured on the front cover and its nearby roundabouts, I can't not vote for them.

(It is a great album too; I just often have to skip a track or two. But not always the same ones, so...)

I actually haven't voted yet, because now I think it might be The Clash. Although it's probably really still Prince. Or Duran Duran.

The Cure - Pornography

Shoot Out The Lights just barely over The Nightfly, with Pornography and Number Of The Beast nipping at their heels.

English Settlement is taking this if me and my socks have anything to say about it

Combat Rock, with Elvis, R&L Thompson and Laurie Anderson tied for 2nd.

My gut says ABC, but a careful analysis could've led me to Roxy, XTC, RT or Associates. Love this period with unbounded passion.

God, didn't even register that Kate Bush was on this list too.

ha! OTM on English Settlement. I have been playing it a lot lately and I noticed the same thing. Snowman and Yacht Dance used to drive me nuts; Knuckle Down is the one that's getting no love at the moment. But the key thing is it changes. And the good stuff is sooo good.

I finally found Sulk on vinyl and I was really surprised how different all the mixes were. And the sequencing. It seems like there's 20 versions of that album. It's confusing but I like it.

Went for Thriller narrowly ahead of Pornography.

Despite being a long term John Cale fan, I have still never heard Music for a New Society. Not helped by the fact that copies of it seemingly cost a small fortune. Why isn't it available these days?

Actually, we're probably due some sort of JC remasters/reissues campaign, maybe we'll see it then. Or maybe never, who knows?

Good year! I was so into Imperial Bedroom in high school. But then I grew up and discovered Combat Rock. 1999 and Juju Music also classics obviously

i love that i cut this off at number 25 as 20 would not have been enough and 26 to 30 just doesn't have enough to be included.

the number 25s, so far, have included Three Imaginary Boys, Zenyatta Mondatta, Street Songs and this entry The Dreaming all phenomenal albums.

Blech. Nobody actually listens to Thriller, come on. Wait, if people here are claiming to enjoy Combat Rock, then maybe they actually enjoy Thriller too, I don't know, I can't imagine enjoying more than a track here and there off these things. The whole fucking albums?

Juju Music is great of course, so I hope everyone will be ready to vote for Aura in 1984.

What I actually loved from 1982 whilst actually experiencing the wonders of 1982: Imperial Bedroom, On Land, Special Beat Service, Lexicon of Love, The Dreaming. I still like some songs from the last three - I think Martin Fry is an unacknowledged influence on Stephen Merritt, and of course there are riches on the Beat and Bush records - but within a year or two I realized that Imperial Bedroom is a real bad record. On Land I would have to hear again, on my copy the pops are louder than the music.

In 1982 my friends and I bought tickets for Asia on the basis the involvement of John Wetton and the other prog people in the group. Then the album came out. This band had so little material that they played "Heat of the Moment" during their concert, Carl Palmer did a revolving drum solo with a gong, and then for their encore they played: "Heat of the Moment." Afterwards we went back to my friend's house and ate mushrooms and listened to On Land.

Nobody actually listens to Thriller, come on.

OTM. Of stuff not on the ballot, Hex Enduction Hour and Golden Age of Wireless probably tie for album of the year for me. I ADORE English Settlement and 1999 but both are too long.

I never even heard of ABC. Really digging the first song so far off Lexicon of Love.

Nice list dude, I own 39 and have chunks of probably 20-30 more on compilations. I'd rank The Sound and Comsat Angels in my top 10 but it'd be really hard to rank some of these albums as any could be a renewed favorite today.

Good list but Associates, Kim Wilde, Klaus Nomi, Orange Juice and Scritti should be way higher.

Good little write up Alfred. You're right about this year and it's incredibly good, even looking at this poll and something like Rio doesn't even get a vote.
