OK so this finally actually happened, so I am giving her a thread.

I have only listened to this album once, and I can't really make any pronouncements about it yet. I like it, but I don't know how much, and I can't tell how well the songs mesh. I like the idea of getting a bunch of different writers to contribute, but it also invites a lot of unevenness, stylistic and otherwise.

But I do like the band. They have some groove. I read the Pitchfork review, which faulted the band for wandering between country, soul, and pop without settling down, but that's what I like about it. They rock a little, swing a little, twang a little. Glossy but not slick, or maybe sometimes the reverse.

Anyway. I'll have more to say in a few days. But I am glad she made another record.

It sounds better with each spin so far.

Go see her live if you can!

The one song she wrote here, "Golden," is really good. And the two she wrote on her last one -- "No, Bobby Don't" and "Sugarbowl" -- are my favorites on that album. Which makes me wish she wrote more, but maybe she just doesn't dig writing very much.

She's gonna open for Neko in Baltimore in July I think. I gotta get tickets. I liked her live when I last saw her way back when
