they are great sounding, cute, smart and nice. search: their whole output.

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 22 September 2002 23:00 (twenty-three years ago)

whole lotta love

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 23 September 2002 02:00 (twenty-three years ago)

not very good

simon trife (simon_tr), Monday, 23 September 2002 04:58 (twenty-three years ago)

an acquired taste?

Kevin is coming to australia this month....

dsico (dsico), Monday, 23 September 2002 06:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Together, I'm not sure. Alone, definitely great.

Kevin was fantastic live earlier this year. What I've heard of 'The Inside Story' 3" and 'I Love Presets' I've also liked. I bought bLevin's album at the weekend, but haven't listened to it yet. (Will comment further later on this week maybe.)

On the other hand, 'Haus de Snaus' I've not really got into yet. I like the music, but the 'skits' seem a bit puerile.

There's a good Simon Reynolds article here, which provides a counter-argument to my previous sentence:

"Haus de Snaus" I love. I saw them at the ICA a few months back. Their set was roughly divided 50/50 between nu-laptop noise and "quirky" pop. The former was overwhelmingly brilliant (beat the shit out of Alec Empire's recent laurel-resting), but the latter sadly put me in mind of the Frank Chickens.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 23 September 2002 08:38 (twenty-three years ago)

They seem interesting and "quirky" so some people don't like them. Especially the smut. The Reynolds piece is good.

tigerclawskank, Monday, 23 September 2002 10:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought the Blevin Blechtum album on Deluxe was just awful.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 23 September 2002 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I just bought "Haus de Snaus", and I love it--and yeah, the skits do seem a little stupid, but the way they are presented makes it all worthwhile. I am going to buy DAT Politics' new album when I get paid ($30!! jeez)--Blechtum appears, as well as Kid 606, Matmos, etc...There seems to be a lot of glitchy stuff out now--I love it (and create it as well), but I fear it will get old soon (or is it already old?), and it may start to curdle a bit.

Ashley Andel, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 00:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I literally couldn't stand Haus de Snaus, but I haven't heard the solo stuff so maybe there's something there.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 00:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I have to thank Mark R for lowering my expectations of Talon Slalom before I played it, but man - you must have been in a bad mood that day or something. It's excellent! One of the year's best. More later.

Jeff W (Jeff W), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 07:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Another vote here - Talon Slalom *is* excellent.

why fiery furnaces?

that doesnt make any sense.

new blevin blectum on praemedia, i like that alot.

marnie casavant, Thursday, 6 January 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

I think Blevin's new Magic Maple is the best thing she's ever done. I think it'd change the minds of people who already think they've made their minds up about all things Blectum, it's the same aesthetic but she's really made it work this time.

Should I listen to mitlon and MICHAEL F GILL and give the new one a try?

Some of her latter efforts made me throw up in my mouth.

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Friday, 16 December 2005 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

sure you're not thinking of Kevin?

Oh Oh Oh Oh Ah (fandango), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

yes I am.

thanks

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:33 (nineteen years ago)

it's great, but not for everyone.

It's perhaps a little less vulgar, but still plenty abrasive... kinda a (very) warped mini-musical song cycle.

I saw her live and she was frickin sensational!

Kevin, not Blevin I presume? I would not be surprised hehe. Looking forward to whatever craziness is the exclusive on that "Girl Monster" comp. She rules pretty hard.

dug out the messy jesse fiesta for the first time in a while today, it still sounds pretty good. parts of it put me in mind of some of the weird sampling experiments on haruomi hosono's monad box

Surprise new album “deepbone” is fun, I especially love the vocal tracks. And in connection to the post above this one from 11 years ago, it does have “the noise about boys” on it. Kind of miss Kevin blechdom in general, and wish “recantata” had gotten an official release.

Michael F Gill, Friday, 27 August 2021 17:13 (four years ago)

Yes, love this. I've definitely got a weird thing where some stuff I didn't think was my "formative" music is actually the stuff I get most excited about coming back. Like, I always liked BFB but I never thought I'd be so hyped for a reformation??

emil.y, Saturday, 28 August 2021 01:33 (four years ago)

Maybe they are the right combination of obscure and underappreciated? And I think this album is more accessible/cohesive than their previous ones.
