So, what does the world want this band, untroubled by individual thought or deed, to do?

Inspired by Damien Rice, Mumford & Sons, Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, My Chemical Romance, Cee Lo Geen, and Fleet Foxes

I think that guy's actually wearing a Pink Floyd T-shirt but I prefer to think he just digs Florida.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 29 June 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

Shall I get mods to lock my thread so we can concentrate the hate in one place?

emil.y, Friday, 29 June 2012 15:58 (thirteen years ago)

I predict much concentrated effort on behalf of internet forums and the eventual top three will look something like:

1. Iron Maiden
2. Black and white minstrels
3. Green comedy hats with 'PADDY POWER' written across them

Matt DC, Friday, 29 June 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

The other thread title was better.

Matt DC, Friday, 29 June 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

OK, I found a nice t-shirt for one of you.

I don't know if this desperate ploy is better or worse than the case of these guys who have been signed up by the National Trust...

Emil.y - Do I have to create an account or actually listen to 5 of their songs to tell them "GG Allin" or can I just scream GG ALLIN at them?

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 29 June 2012 16:36 (thirteen years ago)

Hahahaha. I think you do have to either log in with facebook or make an account with Yougov in order to suggest the terrible things that they should do to themselves, but it'd make me very happy, on the offchance any of you ever did see them in the street, if you would just run up to them, shout "GG ALLIN" in their faces, and then scamper away once more.

emil.y, Friday, 29 June 2012 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

Also, ugh at the hipster National Trust thing. I like National Trust stuff precisely because it isn't up to date and "on trend", jesus.

emil.y, Friday, 29 June 2012 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

It's the National Trust! It is, by its very nature, old stuff!

emil.y, Friday, 29 June 2012 16:42 (thirteen years ago)

At least those guys beat Mumford & Sons to the punchline there

It is an international internet based market research company, and responders have to do 100 surveys to get fifty quid, or something. Seems to have lots of links to right leaning organisations (ie the Telegraph, Tory party, their ex chairman now a Conservative MP etc) Think I'll stick to Ipsos Mori thanks.

there's prolly a dedicated 'band ads' thread in the archive but this seems p appropriate here anyways http://www.gumtree.com/p/community/establishing-london-band-the-swaras-seeking-female-bassist/105936514

(That's right, women should look like drawings, not human beings!)

((What makes it even worse is that this is purportedly being written by a woman))

Jeff Goldblum is watching you, pope! (snoball), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 13:58 (thirteen years ago)

"Your bass-playing is perfect for us but we have some concerns. [Holds up drawing, points] Would you consider having a breast reduction?"

Get wolves (DL), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:12 (thirteen years ago)

You act like stuff like that isn't a *real* thing. "You're great, now lose 30 lbs" isn't just something done to models and actors, you know.

Yes, Virginia, There Is A Higgs Boson (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:16 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, I need to not have this conversation.

Yes, Virginia, There Is A Higgs Boson (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:17 (thirteen years ago)

I'm aware it happens, I'm just not used to seeing it spelled out like that. With a drawing.

Get wolves (DL), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:18 (thirteen years ago)

It's the blatant-ness that's striking here.

So many ads I've seen (in the past (I mean I don't look at those ads anymore, not that they don't do that now) on bandboards) say "only apply if you look like Joan Jett" or some such, but I just assumed they were kidding (weren't they?)

Mark G, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

I don't even want to get into this because it's too close to the bone, but based on my years as a session bassist - no. They weren't kidding.

It's weird, too, the drawing thing, but it's not like I haven't seen that before. It's totally from the language of fashion. Draw a picture of a dress and expect a woman to fit into that, rather than vice versa. It just upsets me so much to see women buying into it so hard.

Yes, Virginia, There Is A Higgs Boson (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

I mean, see even the posts upthread about "I recommend salads" etc. for how people think it's totally acceptable to body police women in bands - no, just scratch the "in bands" bit of that.

Yes, Virginia, There Is A Higgs Boson (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:28 (thirteen years ago)

the salads thing was aimed at the whole band though

no it's cool, blokes don't get eating disorders

coopflaggypost (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:38 (thirteen years ago)

It happens more rarely on ILX than in other places on the internet, but sometimes you just get bummed out that you opened a thread.

Walter Galt, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 15:11 (thirteen years ago)

axl rose eating a salad is pretty funny though.

Hey, they asked my advice, I recommended salads. If you're bummed out, go eat a salad

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

I personally like salad

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

salads are pretty bad for bands image-wise, though. minor threat could pull off a salad maybe.

My advice is start playing Christian rock and get into that market, there's tons of $$$ to be made amiright?

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)

based on the constant van breakdowns and prayer vigils of christian parody band apologetix, i'd say amy grant was right to go secular.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 22:11 (thirteen years ago)

I'm equally perplexed about the "we make music to appeal to the media; personal preferences don't come into it" thing.
