40-strong Japanese free jazz/psychedelic/freakout/performance art collective, first band on at Glastonbury this year, anyone see them? Caught 3 minutes of mayhem on telly yesterday, neeeed inpuuuut!

I saw them at Glastonbury on the Jazz Stage. They were excellent.

I think someone (Andrew?) mentioned them in the top ten Glasto things on freaky trigger.

For similar stuff try Pigbag's Dr Heckle & Mr Jive.

Lets not get carried away - they only had about 31 or 32 people onstage at Glasto. And we're brilliant. Sounded like Sun Ra meets the Skatellites.

It wasn't necessarily a top-ten, more a things I remember. I'd happily listen to a record by them (though most likely not twice), but if you can see them live, do so.

MOMUS GENIE OF US EXIT YOUR ROMAN SHELL!

They sound like they have something to do with the Idiot Flesh /Sleepytime Gorilla Museum/ Degenerate Art Ensemble crowd

which is a good thing...

Very good but unfortunately most of their tracks went on too long. The energy and excitement was waning after a fifteen minute prog-esque workout. Great choice though for day one of Glastonbury.

After Glasto I had a look for their cds but at the time could only find them as amazon.com imports. Search for Shibusa Shirazu, there is 5 of them - Shiburyu, Shibusai, Be-cool, Dettaramen, Something Different nearly all for about $30
