has to be the first time a band has topped the chart twice in one year with lead singles from different albums, black keys really do pump that garbage out at a fast clip

Yeah, this year has a lot of songs that crossed over to pop (Coldplay, Foster the People) or were featured in TV commercials (Black Keys, Black Keys).

Well, Coldplay didn't so much cross over as remain over.

Re: two #1 Black Keys songs from different albums in one calendar year.

Did a little checking... Nirvana did it in 1994 ("All Apologies" from In Utero and "About a Girl" from Unplugged) and Green Day did in 1995 ("When I Come Around" from Dookie and "JAR" from the Angus soundtrack). Little fact for the day.

well i said 'lead singles' ("All Apologies" and "When I Came Around" were definitely not the first hits off those albums), but still, good trivia.

Even though I like BK, "really do pump that garbage out at a fast clip" is a hilarious assessment.

i wonder if such a popular band has put less effort into their songwriting since, i dunnno, BTO or something. not that 30 Seconds To Mars are inherently better for all the effort they put into sucking but i kind of admire how much they believe in it.
