Lucifer is quoting/sampling Max Romeo's "War in a Babylon" - which is neither dancehall nor from the early 80s

Love Shinehead.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

Speaking of which - Pato Banton "My Opinion" is fantastic. I especially like the Mad Professor mix. So, what do you call this style of reggae? I've always had trouble describing it other than "80s dancehall" which is too wide a net.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

is Junior Reed's One Blood too later for this?

“Yes, I love the kinky fuckery." (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

It's later 80s, but I think it counts.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

Pato Banton is still dancehall, but he's kind of outside the mainstream Jamaican stuff (like most Mad Professor affiliated stuff is.)

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

I mean dancehall is a ridiculously broad term anyway. Basically everything from mento to ragga is dancehall, really.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

under me sensi
