Very close between "Every Little Step" and the two Soul II Souls. Would throw in Karyn White's "The Way You Love Me" and the Boys' "Dial My Heart" if they were there.

Both Soul II Souls vs. a few others. Not the best R&B #1 list. Underrated: the Chuckii Booker song.

"Just Because" I dismissed for years but, man, it hit me HARD a few months ago.

I was going to be contrary and vote 'Me, Myself and I' but the second time my eyes alit on 'Back to Life', "however do you want me" crossed my mind and I knew any other vote would be specious.

Anita Baker didn't have a bad single, pretty much all of them are amazing

Last year, we were in a jewelry store and "Giving You The Best That I Got" came on their in-store playlist and I discovered that all of the words to it lurk in my subconscious

It's weird how that works, isn't it? Shit you never necessarily owned but heard all the time on the radio or at a club and years later you chance to hear it and it's right there just below the surface of your consciousness.
