thinking specifically about horrible gothy drones on otherwise pleasing pop music rather than actual goths i think

Tartar Mouantcheoux (Noodle Vague), Monday, 16 July 2012 12:27 (twelve years ago)

Drake

windjammer voyage (blank), Monday, 16 July 2012 12:28 (twelve years ago)

I may get flamed for this, but I could never really hang with the Brendan Perry parts of Dead Can Dance.

David Allan Cow (Dan Peterson), Monday, 16 July 2012 14:48 (twelve years ago)

this thread is only here to make DJP do his Wayne Hussey imitation

tallarico dreams (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 16 July 2012 15:17 (twelve years ago)

The previous two answers before Aerosmith's are to be taken out and shot.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 July 2012 15:20 (twelve years ago)

I need to give DCD another chance; it's been many years.

Clarke B., Monday, 16 July 2012 15:25 (twelve years ago)

I'm pretty goth-sensitive, it's only one day a week I can listen to Japan or The Cure, but Brendan Perry is always great. I'd even argue "Mr. Lovegrove" is my fave DCD song (sometimes, anyway)

Ówen P., Monday, 16 July 2012 15:34 (twelve years ago)

You guys really need to follow the Spotify link in the Mission thread and listen to the album Dan and I have been trying to listen to.

Desire is withered away from the sons of men! (aldo), Monday, 16 July 2012 15:41 (twelve years ago)

no i really really don't need to do that

Tartar Mouantcheoux (Noodle Vague), Monday, 16 July 2012 16:18 (twelve years ago)

i don't think it's ugly or awful but ian curtis makes me laugh almost as much as a donald duck impression.

Philip Nunez, Monday, 16 July 2012 18:13 (twelve years ago)

Brian Eno

mod night at the oasis (NickB), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 13:54 (twelve years ago)

"The Belldog" just came up on shuffle and it always makes me go "shut up shut up stop it"

Tartar Mouantcheoux (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 13:56 (twelve years ago)

this thread makes very little sense to MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 13:58 (twelve years ago)

Holy shit... I had a dream last night about this thread. Someone gently intoned the name "Simon Raymonde" in a really drawn-out, exaggerated way, such that the two names rhymed. I remember waking up afterward, thinking "huh, maybe that's who I meant in that ILM thread"... I then realized that I've never actually even heard Dead Can Dance, and that I was mixing them up with This Mortal Coil, and that Simon Raymonde's is the voice I can't really take.

Clarke B., Tuesday, 17 July 2012 13:58 (twelve years ago)

although really by the rules of this thread, every answer should be changed to Drake

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 13:59 (twelve years ago)

But wait, does Raymonde even sing on those records? Who's the guy with the awful lisp?

Clarke B., Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:00 (twelve years ago)

drake more like drakeula

Clarke B., Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:11 (twelve years ago)

david sylvian

i don't know if he's goth or what, but i once knew someone who had a david sylvian album. i didn't like it.

contenderizer, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 15:02 (twelve years ago)

also agree about dead can dance guy

contenderizer, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 15:03 (twelve years ago)

Honestly I think Brendan Perry's singing voice is a dead ringer for Neil Diamond.

The Painter of Blight™ (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 15:25 (twelve years ago)

I like when Brendan Perry sings!

mississippi joan hart (crüt), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 16:25 (twelve years ago)

A lot of guys who I met with rolleye at first, like David Sylvian, later grew to be favorites. Or at least able to appreciate on some level. These guys' voices are still liking more because they are ridiculous than actually enjoying them:

simon raymonde doesn't sing. or maybe he does but he certainly never did with this mortal coil.

you're thinking of gordon sharpe, probably. howard devoto sang on holocaust.

akm, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 00:22 (twelve years ago)

Simon Raymonde sings all of his solo album.

Desire is withered away from the sons of men! (aldo), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 07:09 (twelve years ago)

brendan perry is fantastic. and his solo album from last year is pretty great. i like those dudes who can belt it out like that and just own it, kinda like patrick walker of warning & 40 watt sun.

omar little, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 07:22 (twelve years ago)

this thread makes no sense
