There is no band, however bad, which has never had at least one redeeming moment.

Nine Inch Nails

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 23 September 2002 22:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I've always agreed with this statement and defended it with guts and vigour between 1988 and 1994...

Then I heard Mr Blobby.

Charlie (Charlie), Monday, 23 September 2002 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Insane Clown Posse.

I mean, the joke isn't even funny ONCE.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 23 September 2002 23:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Not yet have I found any use for a Blessid Union Of Souls (remember them?) record.

Ian Johnson, Monday, 23 September 2002 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Young Black Teenagers?

such a bad idea...

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 23 September 2002 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Tap The Bottle! Tap The Bottle! Twist The Cap! Grrr...

collective soul

keith (keithmcl), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan and I mock the inclusion of NIN on this list. I will leave Dan to defend ICP on his own, though. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 00:39 (twenty-three years ago)

the Juliana Theory; Rusted Root

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 01:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Collective Soul rock harder than the Blessid Union. Blessid Union could sing better than Korn. Korn have better beats than the ICP. And I have fond memories of ICP getting the shit kicked out of them by Eddy Guerrero at that WCW show with all the bikers.

B:Rad (Brad), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm struggling to find anything at all good to say about Creed.

My name is Kenny, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 03:39 (twenty-three years ago)

"Not yet have I found any use for a Blessid Union Of Souls (remember them?) record"

haha my school (but not me) booked them last year. the committee that did had no idea what they were doing and agreed to the amount quoted by the agent. They only sold 300 tickets to the event, and the band cost them $15000. no, that was the right amount of zeros! we tried to get them to book maceo parker, but no luck.

back on topic...

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 03:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Collective Soul had "Smashing Young Man" which was a fun song.

The Cardiacs

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 09:27 (twenty-three years ago)

NIN???? Bah.

What about WASP.

Roger Fascist (Roger Fascist), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 10:15 (twenty-three years ago)

if somedthing was a good idea, it wouldn't need a redeeming moment

ICP's redeeming moments for me are
i. the ILM/ICP troll threads, which are v.funny
ii. josh's ICP joke abt misha mengelberg

have ppl who say "Creed" or "Korn" actually listened to everything these groups did? for someone to say [xx] has no redeeming moment w.any actual authority, they have to have been pretty obsessive at some earlier point

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 10:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Status Quo - Ocean Colour Scene

kinski (kinski), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 10:48 (twenty-three years ago)

ugly kid joe - eveything about you = great

status quo - live = very funny, as they play the same song every time.

WASP - I remember them having their moments.

And Mark S is OTM!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Korn on South Park - redeeming moment par excellence...as with Radiohead and Robert Smith

blueski, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:08 (twenty-three years ago)

BUSTED.

case closed.

racing_the_tide, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:12 (twenty-three years ago)

the chorus is quite good.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Personally, my theory has always been :

"Every band in the whole world has the ability to produce at least one good song...whether or not they ever manage it is another story."

This then explains the odd enigma of bands that can somehow produce, from the very depths of appalling quality and dross, a shining gem.

Carmilla, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Rusted Root

I dunno. I had a roommate in college who listened to them. Although I wouldn't call myself a fan, I have to say that as unavoidable background music, it was at least less offensive than many of the alternatives, such as interminable Grateful Dead bootlegs.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

ICP clearly proves this idea wrong. Nothing even remotely redeeming about them.

Yancey (ystrickler), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 15:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Billy Joel, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull

Burr, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

haha yancey has every record ICP evah made and has been to all their shows!!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Billy Joel, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull

What?! These guys all have BRILLIANT moments!

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Everything Jethro Tull did was brilliant.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I have not been to an ICP show, but thanks to my day job I know them very well. Way too well. I have heard their records. Trust me, it's complete shit.

Yancey (ystrickler), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Manic Street Preachers. Bor-ing, po-faced wankers.

Jesus Cross, Wednesday, 25 September 2002 10:20 (twenty-three years ago)

this has always been a big theory of mine too,
which is why i hate 'ocean colour scene' -
not a single decent thing to their name.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 25 September 2002 11:08 (twenty-three years ago)

The time the aliens kidnapped Styx and replaced them with doubles who had musical talent. Unfortuntely, after they recorded "Mr. Roboto," they were discovered and replaced with the originals.

Darn.

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

The Cult

brg30 (brg30), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Yancey: You've heard _Ringmaster_ and _Riddle Box_ as well as the "Beverly Kills", "Terror Wheel" and "Tunnel Of Love" EPs?

boxcubed (boxcubed), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

7 mary three

Embarrassing: a friend made a mix that included a song by them that I actually found myself enjoying. It was an understated acoustic/country-ish miniature that made me wonder why they waste their time with all the Skynrd-doing-bad-grunge (or was that bad-grunge-doing-Skynrd?) shit.

wl (wl), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Winger

luna.c (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 23:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree with the Vandals.

Kris (aqueduct), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 23:44 (twenty-three years ago)

wasp's 'i wanna be somebody' was great

keith (keithmcl), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 23:50 (twenty-three years ago)

the Grateful Dead on their most luded out night were the greatest band in the history of humankind compared to Rusted Root

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 26 September 2002 02:32 (twenty-three years ago)

The Cult never released a bad single in the 80s. "Firewoman" is possibly the pinnacle of late 80s hard rock. As well, they had the best poses and rock moves and Ian Astbury had by far the best hair of any male rock star.

I think I liked all of Winger's singles at the time.

Sterling: What JT albums do you like? I like their hits but I never found the albums consistent.

sundar subramanian, Thursday, 26 September 2002 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

the Grateful Dead on their most luded out night were the greatest band in the history of humankind compared to Rusted Root

Having heard a few too many of those tapes, I must conclude that you truly despise Rusted Root.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 26 September 2002 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

You know this thread title just screams Will Oldham album name.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 26 September 2002 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Winger: MILES AWAY! One of the greatest soft rock ballads of all time!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 26 September 2002 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree with the statement, with one exception: I'd have to say the Spin Doctors.
