oh shit "My Lovin'" vs "Real Love"

The Reverend, Monday, 23 July 2012 03:00 (thirteen years ago)

I don't even know where to start. En Vogue or En Vogue or Mary or Bobby or Gerald & Eddie or Al.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 23 July 2012 03:01 (thirteen years ago)

this isn't anywhere near as loaded as 88 imo, lotta folx that have come to the end of the road (though not michael jackson - both those hits are phenomenal, i'd take them over anything on bad tbh), two icons making their first appearance and the first examples of laface and whitney and bobby's move to atlanta bearing fruit at the top of the charts, difficult to overstate the impact those moves and the industry money that followed had on the city and on r&b and hip-hop in general.

voted 'real love'.

balls, Monday, 23 July 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

Don't forget Kriss Kross and Another Bad Creation when talking about Atlanta ruling the airwaves in the early 90s.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 23 July 2012 03:05 (thirteen years ago)

1) "The Best Things in Life Are Free," 2) "Tennessee," 3) "You Remind Me."

clemenza, Monday, 23 July 2012 03:06 (thirteen years ago)

Tennessee, though I have good memories of a few of these.

was in ATL for all that but voted "In the Closet" for its mysteries & slam

balls, Monday, 23 July 2012 03:09 (thirteen years ago)

i think that's the last prince appearance (going forward at least) which is just sad, my least fave of his huge hits by far. not that crazy about the album it's from either tbh, least fave he made pre-name change by far for me.

balls, Monday, 23 July 2012 03:17 (thirteen years ago)

something i noted in my review for the high school newspaper - headline: "prince hits rock bottom with diamonds and pearls"

GET IT

had a pretty big crush on either diamond or pearl though, whichever one became a big christian and was giles' girlfriend briefly on buffy before she got killed off.

balls, Monday, 23 July 2012 03:19 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like the only person on ilm who thinks "diamonds and pearls" is a perfectly good song

nakhchi little van (some dude), Monday, 23 July 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

Good song, good album.

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 23 July 2012 12:27 (thirteen years ago)

(REAL NAME) (m coleman), Monday, 23 July 2012 12:28 (thirteen years ago)

kind of hate the original but man I love this version

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 23 July 2012 13:26 (thirteen years ago)

Wasn't the acapella version the original version? Been a while, of course, but I seem to recall it being rerecorded with instruments for radio play (only to have everyone prefer the original anyway, of course).

I heard the single (non-a capella) version first so I think of it as the original version; I have no idea about the recording history

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 23 July 2012 14:38 (thirteen years ago)

This was the year I was most attuned to "urban" radio, so I remember a lot of these songs very fondly.

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Monday, 23 July 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

"Real Love" over "You're Never Gonna Get It."

Pete Scholtes, Monday, 23 July 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

Shai - If I Ever Fall In Love <- a capella version of this slays

I didn't know there was any other version.

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 23 July 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

why would you do that?

The Reverend, Monday, 23 July 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know! It's terrible and I hated the song for the longest time because of it!

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 23 July 2012 19:23 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that shai a capella (the only one i knew also) was so huge, a real phenomenon, one of those tracks that you heard like crazy and everyone was talking about within a week of hitting radio.

balls, Monday, 23 July 2012 19:24 (thirteen years ago)

ha i wonder if the album was a reverse 'back to life' where ppl were expecting an a capella but nope

Boyz II Men - End of the Road

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzwait a minute, I love this song!

Eric H., Monday, 30 July 2012 00:25 (thirteen years ago)

Voted "Best Things," tho. Kind of starting to think I can't not vote for a member of the Jackson family in any of these polls.

Eric H., Monday, 30 July 2012 00:25 (thirteen years ago)

I'd jam this playlist.
