Orangutans don't really like music much, but they're partial to a bit of 'bodyrock' by Andy C

Whatever cats listen to they heard it first before it went mainstream and rubbish.

kmfdotm (ledge), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:51 (twelve years ago)

OK maybe the spirit of this question is supposed to be more imaginative than literal, but David Teie composes music for cats:

and monkeys:

That "Music for cats" linked above is filled with pathos for me. It's feline sound effects for the cat to appreciate, plus sentimental musical overlay to reflect to the human listener how they feel about their pet.
We can love and take care of animals without anthropomorphizing them. Non-human brains don't contain any aesthetic sense.

Halfway there but for you, Tuesday, 19 January 2021 16:48 (four years ago)

I'm sure a cow prefers listening to folk music to being slaughtered, though.

Halfway there but for you, Tuesday, 19 January 2021 16:49 (four years ago)

Non-human brains don't contain any aesthetic sense

why not?

Left, Tuesday, 19 January 2021 17:19 (four years ago)

I strongly disagree

Left, Tuesday, 19 January 2021 17:20 (four years ago)

OK, humans have seen no evidence of it. So animals would need to make their own music rather than have us create it for them.

Halfway there but for you, Tuesday, 19 January 2021 17:21 (four years ago)

they do

Pretty sure the racoons & foxes slinking in the night listen to The Afghan Whigs.

BlackIronPrison, Tuesday, 19 January 2021 23:13 (four years ago)

Yeah sorry the 'non-human brains have no aesthetic sense' is as stupid as 'animals only form attachments to humans when humans feed and house them' argument, which has been disproven. I've never seen you post here, so please kindly shut up in this otherwise delightful thread and enjoy the happy cow.

c'mon i think Halfway is a good poster, there's no need to be rude

i do however think it's stupid to maintain that non-humans can't appreciate or make art!
