Name some hip-hop songs that have Transformer references!
I can think of two offhand.

Dr. Dre - "Light Speed" ('makin fools "RETREAT!" like Megatron and Starscream')

Wu-Tang Clan - "Impossible" (A space night like Rom / consume planets like Unicron / Blasting photon bombs from the arm like Galvatron)

Dr. Octagon, "No Awareness" - before one chorus Keith goes "Megatron, rejuvenate!"

"We care a lot about Transformers, 'cause there's more than meets the eye": Faith No More

anytime a rapper says "Roll Out!" they are referencing "Autobots, roll out!"

"Transformer" by Warren G uses the hook from the theme song. but its about Transvestites.

Rahzel has a half dozen Transformer references on his LP. even beatboxes the Transforming sound. "Rahzel, call me Optimus Prime, ...somehting something... ain't no stopping this rhyme"

DMX says some shit about Optimus Prime on a song on his first album. can't remember where.

now if you want to hear some Transformers remixes, head here...

I dare you not to dig "Iron Intro/Lets Roll 2002" or "Planet Cybertron Rock"
the guy who made these remixes is a good friend of mine and made some serious money selling CDs at BotCon 2002. you can also buy his music from his store at http://www.tfw2005.com

This is shaping up to be a great year (heh, esp. since I'm catching up on all the great stuff released late 2001 over here). Everyone else will cover all the good foreign stuff, so here's some of the good NZ stuff (+ a bonus Aussie track!)

P-Money - Big Things
Dubious Bros - Trade Secrets
Salmonella Dub - Inside The Dubplates*
Mestar - Porcupine

Rhombus - Clav Dub (original & the Agent Alvin remix)
Deceptikonz - Elimination
Nesian Mystik - It's On
Spiderbait - Arse Huggin' Pants
Black Seeds - Hey Son
betchadupa - Supa Day**
Concord Dawn - Morning Light
Shapeshifter - Move With Me
PSA - Public Service Announcement (original & DLT remix & Bulletproof remix)
Brunettes - Moon In June Stuff

Argh, I know I've forgotten stuff . . . (again, I need my cockfarming music on the same landmass as me).

*if it was released this year, otherwise the remix album Outside The Dubplates will do nicely
**er, sorry to all for this

oh crap, wrong thread. *dies of embarassment etc*

Actually, "Elimination" by the Deceptikonz is on-topic, as is "More Than Meets The Eye".

you are all forgetting the obvious:

71 & esoteric - "be alert"

I swear up and down that Del's done at least a couple, though possibly as part of Heiroglyphics or Deltron 3030. I just can't remember specifically or pick it out from the huge sea of '80s pop-cult-sci-fi-anime-nerd stuff he often indulges in. I know he had a line about "transformed into a plane like Starscream" in "Cyberpunks"...

"Roll Out" by D-Stroy kicks off with a "Transform and roll out!" sample.

There's an Arsonists song with the line "They were like "Oh my god he turned into Gigantor"" was well.

i'm pretty sure there's one in 'My Genre' by Aspects.. well, there would be wouldn't there.

This is my all time favourite thread - transformers and hip hop together!

How about that Norman Cook bootleg from around 88 which mixed the Jackson Sisters and Maceo and the Macks. Featured that "Transformers - Robots in Disguise" bit then him transformer scratching "I Believe in Miracles" Great record!

Big Daddy Kane: "the show will go on/as I perform/transforming on stage like a Decepticon."

wl (wl), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, "It's a Big Daddy Thing."

Iceman J - Dance Transformer. yumm

Last Emperor has a couple. Talib Kweli has one in the last song on the Black Star record, "You pickin' the wrong time, steppin' to me when I'm in my prime like Optimus/Transformin', from rookie of the year to veteran".
