"Ahhh, the tears of whiny hipster faggots. Nothing gets a trendy turd more upset than making fun of their precious "original" music. Go drink more PBR you dirty fucking self-ironic shit hippies."

scott seward, Friday, 24 August 2012 23:41 (thirteen years ago)

SOOOOOO like a hipster to deny that hipsters exist and then yawn. GET HIM!!!

"People still call other people hipsters? It's nice to see that LA Weekly has it's finger SO close to the pulse of pop culture. Yaaaawn."

"In trying to criticize what this lovely group of reviewers have deemed "hipster bands," I'd say this list has reached a level of pretension that couldn't even be found in Williamsburg. I mean wow, each one of these blurbs is just a slew of overwrought metaphors and empty ambiguous complaints. I'm not saying all these groups are great, or even good, but I'm sure the people who wrote these attacks have never made a scrap of music in their lives and are probably now sitting in a darkened room somewhere staring at a computer screen and trashing someone else's attempt to music or some other art whilst enjoying the smell of their own farts. Damn, I mean the White Stripes got shot down as shitty, WTF."

"thank you! arcade fire, in my opinion, was the first band to really start this whole "do-it-your-self" mentality, along with striping down and playing orchestrated, original, provocative music. then came these other bands playing blue grass, or having twenty members, or two. they were the first band in a while to successfully break convention and do it the way they felt; not what they thought a band should sound like or be made up of. and if that approach to writing music is wrong, then i dont wanna be right."

this is one of them confrontational articles written to help bring traffic to a site. it's working apparently.

"Um, I'd tend to agree across the board, but you're bookends are flawed. You're way off on the Black Keys and Bon Iver. Don't believe the anti-hype and bolierplate backlash just because it feels good. After cleaning the shit out of your ears from listening to all this other crap give the BKs and BI a closer listen and try to heart what's really going on with their music. And to expect the Black Keys, or any present-day "blues-rock" purveyors, to sound like or embody the actual blues is just fucking stupid. Even in '64 the Stones couldn't/didn't try to pull that off. We have to allow people the right interpret the blues however they see fit. More than any other genre of music, that's what the blues is about."

"So you basically just took some of the only bands in the industry that are doing something truly unique and innovative and bashed the fuck out them. Listen to fun.'s debut Aim & Ignite. It's probably the most original release in the last 15 years. Delve into the meaning and story behind Arcade Fire's The Suburbs. Consider who else in the industry right now sounds like Bon Iver or MGMT. Go back to listening to Katy Perry and Lil' Wayne and refrain from talking about actual music."

scott seward, Saturday, 25 August 2012 00:12 (thirteen years ago)

"point being: all you have to do is use the word "hipster" and watch the comments roll in. people, stop getting enraged about this term and stories like this will cease. who fucking cares who's a hipster or what a hipster is or what its origins may be? let it die, it's so old and tired even Paul McCartney's wearing a vegetarian t-shirt on Sunset trying to look like one. it's a joke now, lines are blurred, IT'S OVER."

"There have been a lot of article recently about the appropriated, cultural ennui defined as 'Hipster.' Has the success of these bands perhaps challenged the Indie aesthetic? Are they lacking in an intellectual dialogue? Are they appropriating something that started in Africa? Are they bands that have been used by a commercial industry in the face of a devastating economic crisis (to take a quote from 'The Smiths' "It says nothing to me about my life.")? A resounding perhaps is the answer."

scott seward, Saturday, 25 August 2012 00:16 (thirteen years ago)

Bon Iver- To me your article is more of a protest to the hipster community and how you completely miss the point of Bon Iver's music. I get the feeling you hate Bon Iver's music not because you think of them as being "pretentious," but because you don't like Justin Vernon's falsetto and classify it as being "whinny". Are you going to me that you think of Brian Wilson, the Bee Gees, Prince, and Freddie Mercury as being "whinny" too.

I also like to point of your over use of sexual imagery as oppose of you making a point. "Bumped and Grinned?" you are suppose to be telling us Bon Iver, not something you would seeing in expensive dance bar. "Humped Strangers in bathrooms?" it seems to me you're pulling something from your ass as writing as if your are making a well explained point.

I'm not saying you should like Bon Iver as I do, but give your reasons why you don't like and writing as if fans of Bon Iver are bunch of mindless and thoughtless music lovers. Everyone has there own opinion, but make us (the reader) think that your absolutely right because we get the impression of a complete and utter total ass whole and a complete idiot.
