should clarify that by people im referring broadly to the hundreds of thousands who have clicked on this, shared it on facebook to tell their pals how dumb it is, tweeted it, etc

bugler, Saturday, 25 August 2012 22:53 (twelve years ago)

Terrible list. Only a select few actually-awful contenders.

Simon H., Saturday, 25 August 2012 23:15 (twelve years ago)

having Pomplamoose on here is cheating

just one little Tayto (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 25 August 2012 23:26 (twelve years ago)

Even though I actively dislike a few of the acts on that list, I would like to cast a write-in vote for the LA Weekly, please.

Old Lunch, Saturday, 25 August 2012 23:38 (twelve years ago)

la weekly is useful sometimes... for lining litterboxes.

ezra kleine nachtmusik (get bent), Saturday, 25 August 2012 23:44 (twelve years ago)

i didn't even consider pomplamoose, they're in a different circle of hell

Iago Galdston, Saturday, 25 August 2012 23:49 (twelve years ago)

like as soon as you open "Top 20 Musicians of All Time, in Any Genre" you see they've ranked J.S. Bach at 20, Rolling Stones at 19, Xian Xinghai at 18, and then you get to scroll down to the comments to see who took that bait -- what's not to love?

xpost: agreed

oprah gangnam style (crüt), Sunday, 26 August 2012 00:03 (twelve years ago)

the Beach House blurb contains the phrases "neo-soul," "trip-hop," "Massive Attack," "post-rock," "Stereolab," "electro mush," and "house music."

some dude, Sunday, 26 August 2012 00:09 (twelve years ago)

somehow they managed to not include the phrase "snacks the cat" so +1 to LAW

how's life, Sunday, 26 August 2012 00:11 (twelve years ago)

When Alan Rich wrote for them, that's when.

I would like to point out that the Decemberists are not hipsters, or hip or Indie. They are an alternative pop band. Crash Test Dummies weren't Indie or hipsters. Neither were They Might Be Giants. Nor were "Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" era XTC. Take the Decemberists and shuffle them with these not-that-hip bands from 20 years ago, throw in Shiny Happy People and you've got a pretty seamless playlist.
