so what does everyone think of playhouse now that the microhouse trend is over?
i just dug out "famous when dead 2" and damn, it's really, really good. it's sayin something when the worst track is a shake track!
so what's the opinion on playhouse? what happened? did they stop putting out music? why did the interest taper off so fast?

i believe they stopped due to financial reasons, though half the team behind it now run the "live at robert johnson" label and of course, roman flugel who also ran it is still very active.
i still love playhouse; one of the all time classic labels imo, and they started way before the microhouse trend (first release was 94 or 95).

btw stir you might be conflating klang and playhouse, playhouse's early stuff (96) was like isolee and soulphiction and bolo edsel and to my ears sounds very "minimal phunk" along the lines of early steve bug, maybe not as micro-housey as the herbert things that really kickstarted the genre but definitely ... protomicrohouse?

whereas klang was doing really acid-y less experimental stuff at the get go (later getting into mad experimental business like bergheim 34 and eight miles high)
the first playhouse records were from the era when playhouse was a sub label of ladomat. they definitely weren't micro house. maybe a little proto-micro? :)

I almost bought Famous while dead 4 today! (And I should of! I need Max Mohr's "Old Song" on vinyl!)
Also, playhouse is <3 4 Life.
