A man who loves women with low self-esteem. As soon as they stand up for themselves he's gone

^^ this is the closest one other than your basic misunderstanding of how people often use the word "until"

IN REAL LIFE (some dude), Thursday, 6 September 2012 12:30 (twelve years ago)

i didn't realize this song was bigger in Australia than anywhere else, maybe has to do with Sia writing it?

IN REAL LIFE (some dude), Thursday, 6 September 2012 12:38 (twelve years ago)

"I'm going to be driving until I fall asleep" = "After I fall asleep I will no longer be driving"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 6 September 2012 12:42 (twelve years ago)

"I'm going to smack you until you understand" = "When you start understanding, I will stop smacking you"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 6 September 2012 12:43 (twelve years ago)

your examples make me worry further that your grasp of language stems from a troubled life

IN REAL LIFE (some dude), Thursday, 6 September 2012 12:46 (twelve years ago)

Your examples require a person to understand what "when" and "after" mean, which is unlikely if the person doesn't understand what "until" means. Happens all the time, believe it or not.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Thursday, 6 September 2012 12:48 (twelve years ago)

I have never heard this song btw.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 00:08 (twelve years ago)

I finally heard this song and it is awful. The sensation of hearing it was not unlike biting into a mealy apple. Blecch.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 21 September 2012 15:25 (twelve years ago)

my new least favorite part is how he rhymes "feel" with "rell" as in "keep it rell". THEY DON'T RHYME WHEN YOU SAY IT LIKE THAT

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 21 September 2012 17:45 (twelve years ago)

the high notes are my least favorite part so far, but i'm sure with repeated exposure i'll find new things to dislike

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 21 September 2012 17:48 (twelve years ago)

no you're right, i think they are the most objectively egregious thing about this song. he's really straining for those notes and.. i kinda think he doesn't actually hit them?? you're pitchy, dog

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:15 (twelve years ago)

this song is so great

some dude, Friday, 21 September 2012 23:51 (twelve years ago)

in a triumph the insult comic dog kind of way or what?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 22 September 2012 09:02 (twelve years ago)

Glad you didn't embed a youtube clip as I'm not going to actively seek out something that has the potential to do me harm, but my curiosity might have got the better of me if I just had to click a button.

ledge, Saturday, 22 September 2012 09:09 (twelve years ago)

eh this song's fine, it's fun

you get used to, or more precisely derive a sort of perverse braced enjoyment from, those strained chorus notes, like a nauseating dip on a rollercoaster you keep going back on

i couldnt really say if this is how the rest of the general population approach the matter however

r|t|c, Saturday, 22 September 2012 09:50 (twelve years ago)

the chorus drops seem so perfunctory to begin with that sometimes i wonder to what extent you can get away with having dance-pop styling as dressage on a straight r&b song

but then there's the great worth-waiting-for "for every heart that beats" bit that winds it right up for belated exultant release

r|t|c, Saturday, 22 September 2012 09:54 (twelve years ago)

agree about the chorus strain. "for every heart that beats" is prob my least favorite part of the song, though.

Tracer what's your favorite Ne-Yo song?

some dude, Saturday, 22 September 2012 11:14 (twelve years ago)

that's not really an operative category for me tbh

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:32 (twelve years ago)

oh good so it doesn't really matter at all what you think of this one

some dude, Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:35 (twelve years ago)

lol this thread

horseshoe, Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:38 (twelve years ago)

it's not the best ne-yo song or anything but its meaning seems entirely manifest

horseshoe, Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:39 (twelve years ago)

aw i'm watching the video right now and could ne-yo be any more adorable? no he could not.

horseshoe, Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:41 (twelve years ago)

this song is so great

tuomas without a nose ring (The Reverend), Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:46 (twelve years ago)

i listened to all of 7 or so dancey Ne-Yo songs recently and was like yeah, this and "Closer" and "Give Me Everything" are definitely good enough to justify the bad ones

some dude, Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:49 (twelve years ago)

he's at least way better at them than Usher

some dude, Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:51 (twelve years ago)

"closer" is a song it is impossible for me not to sing along with aloud even if it's playing, in, like a restaurant. which can be embarrassing.

the second option in this poll keeps making me crack up

horseshoe, Saturday, 22 September 2012 20:53 (twelve years ago)

haha some dude, oh some dude... i never claimed that my opinion of this song "matters"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 24 September 2012 11:31 (twelve years ago)

one month passes...

new least favorite moment:

I can see the pain behind your eyes
It's been there for quite a while
I just wanna be the one to remind you what it is to smile (nyeah)

THAT "NYEAH"!!! for all the world it sounds like ne-yo's checking off the items he wants in his lunch order while flicking through a few recent texts

mayo - nyeah
cress - nyope
roast beef - nyeah nyeah
mustard - nyeah
show you what it is to really smile - nyeah
large coke - nyeah

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 15:49 (twelve years ago)

two months pass...

i voted for this song in the EOY poll because (1) this thread was funny and also (2) i used this song as an example in class

let me LOVE YOO
