The word poet will be used way too much, and the phrase "funny son of a bitch" not nearly enough.

Does bob ever rock a neckerchief these days? It'd go well with his current look.

There might be a Mojo special issue.

But what would they put in it?

Mark G, Thursday, 13 September 2012 12:24 (twelve years ago)

Uncut will call his passing "a stunning return to form."

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Thursday, 13 September 2012 12:51 (twelve years ago)

"These are the same people that tried to pin the name Judas on me. Judas, the most hated name in human history!" he continued, referring to the controversy over his 1965 album Bringing It All Back Home.

um, no it wasn't,..

Mark G, Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:37 (twelve years ago)

Surprised he still gives a shit about it, although I suppose it's inevitable when you get asked about it in every interview for 40 years.

Euler, Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:57 (twelve years ago)

I have thought about this--what I would play during student entry that morning. The entirety of "Desolation Row" if I could, but I'll have to settle for something much shorter. (This is very morbid, I know.)

clemenza, Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:58 (twelve years ago)

Thinking of the subject to the tune of ABC's "When Smokey Sings."

Ham Lushbaugh (Eric H.), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:05 (twelve years ago)

the saddest part about bob dylan dying is he won't be able to say anything about it

spazzmatazz, Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:11 (twelve years ago)

Oh, my guess is his posthumous album is already in the can.

Mark G, Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:12 (twelve years ago)

I'll never make it through!

I made it through Houston, Whitney.

WFMU has a Bob Dylan Advance Obit Death Tape encased in glass on the wall of the studio, with a little hammer for breaking it on the day. No joke; inspired by the station mgr always getting "Did he die?" calls when he plays B.D.

kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:17 (twelve years ago)

seeing it always makes laugh.
anyway, it'll be sad, but hey, people die. the coverage of it will be excruciating for the most part i'm sure. then the floodgates will open -- dude has had his archive raided plenty of times, but I'm sure there'll be a bunch of miles davis-like box sets containing every note played during the pat garrett and billy the kid sessions or whatever. and i'll probably buy it all goddammit!

tylerw, Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:17 (twelve years ago)

hahahahaha, that is so great

Irwin Dante's Towering Inferno (WmC), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:19 (twelve years ago)

Eric's withering sarcasm...for what it's worth, I actually did play "I Feel Love" the morning after Donna Summer's death. No one cried, but it sounded great.

Wondering what song Bob should do like Johnny Cash's "Hurt".

Thinking "Jealous Again" by the Black Crowes.

tylerw, Thursday, 13 September 2012 15:38 (twelve years ago)

That wasn't sarcasm. That was fact.

Ham Lushbaugh (Eric H.), Thursday, 13 September 2012 16:20 (twelve years ago)

"When Bob Dylan Dies" sounds like the name of a song that would be on a late Bob Dylan album

cwkiii, Friday, 14 September 2012 14:29 (twelve years ago)

Don't look at recent setlists before you go then. While his setlists are never exactly the same, ime he usually has a core songs he plays every show or three on a tour, with other things rotating in and out. Usually every show is good for one unusual number to pop up that he hasn't played in years. He played Joey the first time I saw him.

Why, I would make a fantastic Nero! (PBKR), Saturday, 14 March 2020 15:12 (five years ago)

I did get to see Ornette, that was great. Kinda kicking myself for not seeing Pharaoh recently.

Maybe the act I most regret missing, I was trying to go and just couldn’t afford it in the end and a few years later he had died

dylan was fantastic when i saw him last fall. mostly great arrangements, band was killer, dylan slinking across the stage, lots of harmonica. probably the best show of his I've seen since the early 00s.

tylerw, Saturday, 14 March 2020 17:08 (five years ago)

yeah absolutely the best time I'd seen him, really seemed invigorated. obv still does radical rearrangements of songs but did some fairly straightforward including a beautiful Girl From the North Country with just piano and violin (almost felt a bit like the Rolling Thunder era)

yeahhhh that's the stuff

They shaved her head
She was torn between Jupiter and Apollo

I seen her on the stairs and I couldn't help but follow

were these outtakes part of the bootleg series volume covering Saved? I didnt realize STC songs were also part of it. I might need to cull those

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 17 March 2020 09:42 (five years ago)

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 15:40 (five years ago)

I was annoyed they weren't arranged chronologically though, spent some time editing MP3 ID tags...

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 15:40 (five years ago)

Brad, if you haven't gotten to Trouble No More, I think you are going to lose your shit to the live stuff, which blows away the studio takes.

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 17 March 2020 16:27 (five years ago)

I even enjoy the "musical film" DVD - live footage is hot shit, and Michael Shannon's preacher character monologues are great

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 16:27 (five years ago)

it's also got this amazing thing (which annoyingly doesn't show up on the audio discs)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbveLDvePDQ

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 16:34 (five years ago)

As I posted on some other Dylan thread, my biggest disappointment from Trouble No More is they chopped off some of the between song sermons which are hilarious. Definitely look up Solid Rock Dylan Sermon and When You Gonna Wake Up Sermon Tempe 1979.

Why, I would make a fantastic Nero! (PBKR), Tuesday, 17 March 2020 16:43 (five years ago)

tyler otm that duet is great

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 16:54 (five years ago)

yeah, totally. clydie king is great on that duet, though, totally anticipating bob's weirdo slides, finding the right pitch to match him.

i mean, as if things aren't depressing enough.

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 17:12 (five years ago)

watch Dylan singing with almost anyone (Johnny Cash, Clydie King, even Joan Baez) and it's like you can see the wheels are turning in Bob's head "oh you're just gonna sing the melody? well watch THIS"

oddly he even does this when he's harmonizing with himself lol (cf "The Boxer")

xps
