Really? All the reviews I've read have indicated this is terrible. I will forever stan for Hot Fuss and half the songs on Sam's Town but that last album was awful.

Sam's Town was a disaster at the time -- a buncha straight guys frightened into less androgyne influences like Springsteen and Styx. But the first two singles were tops and maybe they needed to get that shit out of their "Bones" to create "Human."

"a matter of time" is sort of this record's "this river is wild," where they delay the chorus forever and sort of muddle in springsteen-isms until that gigantic, final reveal, but it's so unnecessarily complicated-sounding this time around. the payoff is great but i don't even remember the build.
incidentally "this river is wild" is all-time. that wriggly synth sound!
