Worst most moronic Oasis album title

The album's title was taken from the words made famous by Sir Isaac Newton: "If I can see further than anyone else, it is only because I am standing on the shoulders of giants". Noel Gallagher saw the quote on the side of a £2 coin while in a pub and liked it so much he thought it would be a suitable name for Oasis' new album. He then wrote the name on the side of a cigarette packet while drunk. When he awoke in the morning, he realised he had written "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants".

It's the one that made me the most angry at the time.

But yeah, Don't Believe The Truth is the worst. Can anyone even remember what's on any of these? Certainly the ones after Be Here Now.

Between various songs on the album are several interludes (such as the sound of someone walking down a beach). Oasis have described these as "bits inbetween"[4]

'Don't Believe the Truth' makes sense if they mean by 'The Truth' the now defunct Australian tabloid. But you'd need to stand on the single shoulder of several giants to see how long ago that newspaper folded.

Similarly, "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants" makes sense if they're talking about being stranded on the side of a road named Giants. But Oasis presumably had a fleet of tour buses, support staff, and "mobile" phones, so I can't imagine they'd be stuck there for long enough to start talking about great ideas for their next album title.

There are many things that they would like to say to us, but they don't know how.

Man, Second Night in a Shithole is a great album title.

Don't know if it's come up on the thread before but that Isaac Newton quote was supposed to be him taking the p- out of a height challenged rival. But has gone down in history as a great quote from one of our esteemed and far seeing predecessors.

Be Here Now was a beat quote, & worked ok as a Loop track title. One ofr my favs in fact.

What's the story (Morning Glory) is supposed to be how scallies communicate greeting with each other. It is their version of 'hello, good sir, how do you do'

The Truth or that which is presented as 'The Truth' is something that is constructed out of a lot of variables a lot of which will not look the same from all angles. It is not a monolithic absolute for all time. Therefore not believing something being presented to you as 'The Truth' in such a way is a better idea than accepting it outright innit?
But I don't know if that is what Noel was talking about.

There's a funny Spin interview where Noel has this long explanation about Fox News and Iraq and weapons of mass destruction and not knowing who to believe and Liam just says: "I don't know what the title means. It's a pothead thing, innit? Potheads, man — I don't know." Which handily applies to every Oasis album title.

So the next question should be, which is a more moronic name to give to your new band or solo project, Beady Eye or Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds? The Beady Eye album is called Still Speeding, Different Gear which would fit nicely into the Oasis back catalogue.

Beady Eye is a pretty good name for a band. Still Speeding, Different Gear is naff but at least makes sense. The pun is pitched at exactly the right level for the kind of people who would be interested in the record.
