Best magazine title ever. Aside from Jugs, maybe.

xp exactly like on an old Helix brand 'SHATTERPROOF' ruler - that nevertheless could be bent back and forth repeatedly until it snapped due to material fatigue.

Doesn't that say IDATA3N ?

There should be a parody magazine called IRONY FIST.

Anyway, this is a step up from BRONZE FIST, although I'm looking forward to the publication of MIDDLE AGES FIST.

the most shocking aspect to this thread is that AG had time to nip out to wh smiths and buy this !?

i mean does he not realise that he has a massive ilm countdown to maintain ..

Dude, it's a metal magazine. You're gonna get your wish.

誤訳侮辱, Saturday, 29 September 2012 12:20 (thirteen years ago)

I wish they were selling pdfs. Too damn expensive to get stateside.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 29 September 2012 12:41 (thirteen years ago)

I want that. Yes, not only is it nearly twice as much to order in the U.S., I don't know of anyplace that would carry it. Let's get this shit on e-readers already, FFS. If all the best magazines would give discount subscriptions, I would buy a color reader just for magazines.

Fastnbulbous, Saturday, 29 September 2012 12:44 (thirteen years ago)

It says it will be available in the states.
I bet aQuarius Records will carry it

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 13:12 (thirteen years ago)

I wouldn't pay $15 an issue even if I could find it.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 29 September 2012 13:13 (thirteen years ago)

$25 an issue, though, no problem.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 29 September 2012 13:55 (thirteen years ago)

Well I doubt it will be as much as $15 since it wont have the shipping charge from the UK that you would have if you order directly.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 14:18 (thirteen years ago)

The bookstores have to pay to have it shipped. Uncut and Mojo and the like are always in that ballpark so I'm guessing this would be too.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 29 September 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

Thats a shame if it costs that much but i did use to buy The Big Takeover/Skyscraper from Borders in Glasgow years ago and it wasn't that expensive.
However when they closed I had to order Skyscraper from a bookstore in America and it was probably close to $15 as shipping was double the cost of the mag

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:10 (thirteen years ago)

I will never understand metal.

comedy is unnatural and abhorrent (Scik Mouthy), Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)

It's very simple. 1) wear leather, 2) have long hair, 3) look mean, 4) pose for photos with an animal skull on a stick.

5) make sure the photographer applies a solarising filter in Photoshop.

Mojo is about 10 here I think

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 29 September 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)

You guys get Decibel and we dont and it would cost the same to ship. Nobody sells it at all in the UK.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

I wish all these mags would sell pdf subscriptions. My wife has a sub where she pays $50 for a magazine that would cost $120 in physical form. If more of these music mags were available like Burning Ambulance for $5 a pdf or something I'd pony up more often than I do.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 29 September 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)

I dont have a kindle and I dunno i hate reading magazines or books on a computer. So i dunno if its any use to me, but I would maybe try 1 issue of Decibel if they did it.

They should have made the Sodom byline "The 30 Years of..."

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Saturday, 29 September 2012 20:01 (thirteen years ago)

What other magazines does this publishing group print?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

I have some subscription to an online British magazine service; I have no idea whether or not they carry Iron Fist or not, but they carried Rock-a-Rolla, which is why I got it

alpha flighticles (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 30 September 2012 01:04 (thirteen years ago)

What service is that?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 30 September 2012 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

I wish all these mags would sell pdf subscriptions.

yes, but people would "share" these pdfs and that would be the end of that

Inconceivable (to the entire world) (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 30 September 2012 16:54 (thirteen years ago)

They share scans now, so that's not gonna change. But, just as sites like Comixology are allowing people to buy comics at decent prices (well, the sales are decent) and allowing some former pirates to go legit, the same thing would happen for magazine publishers. Already enough people are paying for subs or single issues to make it palatable for some of these publishers to be doing it for years.

A quick googling makes it look like the service Drugs mentioned might be PocketMags. They offer pdf subscriptions and single issues of both Rock-A-Rolla and Terrorizer at affordable prices. 6 issues of Rock-A-Rolla for about $18, as opposed to $58. That'll get me to pony up once all my moving expenses settle down.

EZ Snappin, Sunday, 30 September 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)

I think you are right EZ

They should do what many other magazines do and have their own awards ceremony. I can just imagine it... a darkened room full of sullen faces, lots of dry ice and plenty of mystery. Just the way it should be!

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 2 February 2013 17:42 (thirteen years ago)

The awards can be some random animal skull on a wooden plinth.

So snoball wont be buying this I assume? :)

I don't have anything against metal, but sometimes the promotion of metal can verge on the ridiculous.

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE

That's the Borg, come on. Or maybe it is the Borg. They look like regular Borg, except the Borg Queen is the singer, and she's carrying a random animal skull on a stick.

Prisoner: Cell Block J/K (snoball), Saturday, 2 February 2013 18:06 (thirteen years ago)

I guess what I'm saying is that animal skull on stick/leather/long hair/mean expression is the metal equivalent of hip-hop artists driving Hummers and throwing wads of money at the camera in slow motion. The music itself may be perfectly fine, but the exaggerated actions surrounding it just make me think "oh, you silly arse".

Prisoner: Cell Block J/K (snoball), Saturday, 2 February 2013 18:08 (thirteen years ago)

ahh the stereotyping begins..

How dare a band be theatrical and dramatic! I demand my metal acts dress in business casual and all their band names be displayed in a tasteful and readable sans-serif font.

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Sunday, 3 February 2013 19:36 (thirteen years ago)

Would be preferable to the band name being presented as a logo that looks like it was drawn by a bored schoolkid during double maths class.

Arthritic Fork Lightning.

Then why make the logo
DARK

?
Come on, that's Graphic Design 101, people! I've never heard their music, but I don't hold out much hope for song craftsmanship on that basis. I bet they rhyme 'moon' and 'June' a lot...

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 4 February 2013 14:08 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah but the Darkthrone logo is actually on the cover of this month's Iron Fist

And it's a perfectly readable logo evocative of the band's earlier evil sound (I know they had it before they were second-wave BM but still).

I mean, even taking that cover as a single example, I find it easier to read the Darkthrone logo than I do that blackletter font they chose for the Saxon subhead.

wronger than 100 geir posts (MacDara), Monday, 4 February 2013 16:52 (thirteen years ago)

the thing we're all dancing around is that if you don't already know what the Darkthrone logo looks like then this probably isn't the mag for you

I really hate when magazines put bands' actual logos on the cover, instead of just printing their names.

Barnes and Noble carries it.

Zachary Taylor, Monday, 4 February 2013 20:11 (thirteen years ago)

Is it expensive?

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 5 February 2013 00:35 (twelve years ago)

$11.99, about normal for an import these days.

I'm going to go ahead and pick up issue #2. #1 was good enough for what it was. Not great writing, and I couldn't tell what the name of any of the bands from the photos, but reading two or three pages about a midwest band that only released a demo cassette in the early 90s is kind of a cool concept.

If it wasn't for a couple of threads on ILM in the past year, I would have been lost.

Zachary Taylor, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 04:43 (twelve years ago)

Man either my local B&N's don't carry it, or its selling out a lot faster than the Prog or w/e import rags.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 5 February 2013 04:53 (twelve years ago)
