tracks sister to 1970-1979 WTF - The Hard 'n' Heavy 'n' Loud + Krautrock, Arty, Noisy, Weird, Funky, Punky Shit - Albums Poll! Nominations ! (ends Oct 15). as i explained there - i'm really hoping to see alot of tracks that would qualify from artists/albums that really don't qualify for albums poll (not restricting it to that mind you, you can still vote for 'supernaut' don't worry, just saying if you wanted to nominate goodbye yellow brick road on the basis that some of it really does rawk well it's gonna get vetoed here i bet but in tracks poll 'all the girls love alice' and 'saturday's alright for fighting' could totally get in). also for big canonical artists ag has quarantined - stones bowie floyd boss - i will consider only tracks/singles NOT on those albums listed above and tbh for springsteen you're gonna have to remind me what tracks could possibly qualify. i'll be fairly catholic there and esp friendly to hard rock moves/gestures by not normally rocking artists. so if ag vetoes it cherrypick the most shredding cut and it probably makes my poll. i guarantee you somebody maybe even you will suggest something i'm unfamiliar w/ so if this is the case (maybe it's a record some huns recorded or by some other ppl that don't even speak english) and i go 'wuh?' at a suggestion it would awesome if you have a spotify or youtube link or someone somewhere describing it in terms that suggest it qualifies. also when voting comes there will be some voting limits of sorts put in place, not as restrictive as album poll but you will not be able to submit yr top 100 aerosmith tracks nor for that matter have a ballot that has peter criss tracks at 1-10 and then fills out the rest of the ballot w/ whatever. so nominate accordingly i guess. nominations close on october 17th 2012, midnight, eastern standard time.

ALSO, URGENT + KEY:

LIST YR NOMINATION IN THIS FORMAT PLZ

Artist - "Rock Song Title"

again that's in bold w/ the beginning of each word capitalized. thank you and may god have mercy on yr soul.

updated list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AsM36o-L6dNEdHQwMTRPa0o1OUEyNVhZM3lmZTVTS1E&output=html

vetoed a few things that are rock but not neccessarily RAWK. finding that loud fucked up guitar, heavy riff, or outright screaming helps yr odds. cod reggae not so much. changed abba and kate bush tracks to others i thought qualified more. re: the doors i allowed riders cuz it's such a rock radio staple and it's "dark" but i can't see myself allowing la woman or love her madly also, gotta draw the line. there is at least one other track on la woman that would qualify iirc. 'belfast boy' i allowed just cuz, if it somehow places top 100 i may come to regret it. allowing some new wave if it rocks surprisingly hard (blondie have several of these tbh) and/or there's some nice guitar wank on it like 'you're all i got tonight'. that's probably the only cars (from the first album at least).

balls, Monday, 8 October 2012 20:13 (twelve years ago)

agreed, thats the only cars song i could imagine a headbanger rocking out to which is a pretty lol image

billstevejim, Monday, 8 October 2012 20:39 (twelve years ago)

Speadsheet is missing The Pink Fairies - Do It

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:39 (twelve years ago)

of if beavis and butthead would sing along to the riff

billstevejim, Monday, 8 October 2012 20:40 (twelve years ago)

although perhaps thats not a great barometer since they sang along to "over the hills and far away"

billstevejim, Monday, 8 October 2012 20:42 (twelve years ago)

o fuck - sorry pink fairies DEFINITELY belongs (ie i will without a doubt be voting for it)

balls, Monday, 8 October 2012 20:43 (twelve years ago)

ok corrected

balls, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 05:52 (twelve years ago)

sincere thanks for nominating the track this thread gets its title from blank! i've added stuff directly to the spreadsheet - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AsM36o-L6dNEdHQwMTRPa0o1OUEyNVhZM3lmZTVTS1E&output=html - that i didn't bother to post here so it's worth a gander if you're unsure something has been nominated (eg i'd already put 'dissident aggressor' on there) but don't sweat renominating stuff that's already on there, it ain't no thing.

balls, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 05:54 (twelve years ago)

Would chuck out to make room: all the Joy Division songs (except maybe Warsaw). JD makes no sense to me in this context: they are filigree and shadow, not RAWK.

^ you gotta have this!

the Unspeakably Evil 70s Poll demands the blood of your previous picks!

Hellhouse, Friday, 19 October 2012 13:49 (twelve years ago)

How did nobody nominate Faith Healer.

passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Friday, 19 October 2012 13:55 (twelve years ago)

i prefer vambo

Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 19 October 2012 14:00 (twelve years ago)

You can genuinely make room for one track, at least: DNA's "Blonde Red Head" is from 1981. FITE!

Oneohchex Point Charlie (Spectrist), Friday, 19 October 2012 14:06 (twelve years ago)

c'mon that's eno's most rocking song!

I guess so, it just seemed good manners to sacrifice one of my own picks.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 19 October 2012 14:20 (twelve years ago)

Just noticed The Adverts - One Chord Wonders is on there twice.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 19 October 2012 14:22 (twelve years ago)

aerosmith's "nobody's fault" is one of the most rocking tunes of the decade, you know in yr heart this is true

http://youtu.be/MsUUkvjliWU

space dokken (Edward III), Friday, 19 October 2012 14:49 (twelve years ago)

Neil Young - Revolution Blues

space dokken (Edward III), Friday, 19 October 2012 14:50 (twelve years ago)

all my picks were based on scanning the list of bands already nommed, if I go ham with the punk singles I could add another 50 or so

space dokken (Edward III), Friday, 19 October 2012 14:52 (twelve years ago)

balls isn't gonna hold a vote. He's just going to do a rollout of his ranking of the 666 songs nominated.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 19 October 2012 14:54 (twelve years ago)

you mean 664

space dokken (Edward III), Friday, 19 October 2012 14:55 (twelve years ago)

do we have:

Generation X - Ready Steady Go

Doctor Casino, Friday, 19 October 2012 19:37 (twelve years ago)

Would chuck out to make room: all the Joy Division songs (except maybe Warsaw). JD makes no sense to me in this context: they are filigree and shadow, not RAWK.

I don't think this is more true of "Shadowplay" and "New Dawn Fades" than it is of Black Sabbath.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 19 October 2012 20:48 (twelve years ago)

ok deleted the duplicates noted and switched out a couple of less rawking joy division cuts and put in a few of the WAY TOO LATE suggestions. nominations now fer real closed. voting process etc set up in a smoke filled room as we speak.

balls, Friday, 19 October 2012 21:27 (twelve years ago)

check your fb pm. i replied to you

Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 19 October 2012 21:28 (twelve years ago)

The Homosexuals were robbed!

stirmonster, Saturday, 20 October 2012 00:45 (twelve years ago)

awesome balls, stoked to see how this all plays out. Thanks for doing this one.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 01:45 (twelve years ago)

except it would appear like, everything i nominated was nixed ;_;

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 01:47 (twelve years ago)

seriously baffled by this universe where "Cat Scratch Fever" rocks less than "No Sugar Tonight," "Jump Into The Fire" less than "Hallogallo," and "Hi Hi Hi" less than "Don't Worry Kyoko"

but i guess since "rock and roll, hootchie koo" made it i will probably not boycott this

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 01:53 (twelve years ago)

wait a min cat scratch fever got nixed????????????

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:00 (twelve years ago)

aw fuck - i thought i'd put it in there and didn't double check. THX OBAMA. 'jump into the fire' is in there under harry nilsson (same w/ eno tracks - i put them under brian eno; used allmusic as standard setter on those type of things). 'hi hi hi' might've been spite. i've also noticed that a yes track is listed twice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s

balls, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:14 (twelve years ago)

haha oh okay, was looking under "nilsson," whew.

I figured "Hi Hi Hi" would make it under "band that doesn't normally really rock at all makes a sincere effort" kinda clause.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:19 (twelve years ago)

ok seriously, "Tiger Feet"?!

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:23 (twelve years ago)

tbh i may have been so 'you gotta be fucking kidding me' at yr 'lido shuffle' suggestion and then 'year of the cat' in the next post that spite may have played a role. also on a subconscious level i was talking to some chick at go last week and she brought up the 'paul is dead' thing and i was like 'cool!' and then slowly it became apparent that no, she was very very convinced that paul is in fact dead and was pretty adamant that anyone who doesn't believe, who doesn't EXAMINE THE EVIDENCE, is a fool who just doesn't want to know the truth. so somewhere in the recesses of my mind that may have been a factor.

balls, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:26 (twelve years ago)

speaking of go bar, right now i am too distracted by the fact that we forgot "cherry bomb" to really comprehend the logic of leaving off "hi hi hi," so is cat scratch fever in or not?

i guess i figured in this al stewart, tiger feet, SCRITTI FUCKING POLITTI world, "lido shuffle" and "hi hi hi" were mind-melting rock jams....

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:33 (twelve years ago)

also to be fair i did couch "lido shuffle" in some uncertainty as to whether it counted IIRC

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:33 (twelve years ago)

lack of cherry bomb is tragic. "tiger feet" is possibly the first song i ever remember hearing (at my 6th birthday party) that resonated with me on some primal level. however, i'm not very nostalgic so i won't be voting for it.

stirmonster, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:39 (twelve years ago)

i mean, don't get me wrong, "Tiger Feet" is cool, I like me some chinnichap pop - just weird to think of it being heavier or rockier or more buttful than etc etc, but i can already picture balls seething at my whining complaints so, whatevs, i'm just gonna add a couple more things to the spotify playlist and ~~rock out~~

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:40 (twelve years ago)

oh fuck we really fucked up on peter frampton

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:43 (twelve years ago)

"'Can The Can" is more rocking Chinnichap pop.

stirmonster, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:46 (twelve years ago)

will definitely get a vote from me somewhere although i woulda preferred "48 crash." have also gradually warmed up to "devil gate drive," it's kinda muffled and lumpy-sounding but it's got something there. her "wild one" ain't bad either.

so can we vote for "cat scratch fever" or not? i dunno if it's top ten for me but it's almost certainly top twenty.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:48 (twelve years ago)

name that riff

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:49 (twelve years ago)

"tiger feet"'s standard third tier glam, there's plenty of its kind on that list (though some of it definitely rawks harder - hi there iron virgin), if it had been bowie or t rex it might've been borderline but i'm really not worried about mud dominating this poll.

balls, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:50 (twelve years ago)

"Devil Gate Drive" is my favourite. I was just going to say I wish I had nominated "Ballroom Blitz" but I see it's in there too. xp

stirmonster, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:50 (twelve years ago)

'cat scratch fever' out for logistical reasons, that horse has left the barn. i would suggest would be 'cat scratch fever' voters vote for 'stranglehold' since it's better anyway.

balls, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:51 (twelve years ago)

I almost went ahead and nommed "Block Buster" which I think rocks harder than "Ballroom Blitz" but for the purposes of this poll I think "Fox on the Run" is gonna get my Sweet vote. Cf She Thinks SHE'S The Pollsionate One: THE SWEET SINGLES POLL

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:51 (twelve years ago)

i'm really not worried about mud dominating this poll

just for saying that i'm going to submit 100 fake ballots with mud in them.

stirmonster, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:52 (twelve years ago)

ughhhhh stranglehold - - - SO LONG and BORRRRRRRING, i always think I like it cause they never play it (BECAUSE IT'S LONG AND BORING) but really I only like the "come on come on come on come on baby" or whatever part

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:52 (twelve years ago)

"Ballroom Blitz's" drums get me every time. I could liste to them looped for an hour.

stirmonster, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:53 (twelve years ago)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE41epNvdY4

^^^ not referring to this btw

(warning, does not rock as hard as "hi hi hi")

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:53 (twelve years ago)

what does?

balls, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:53 (twelve years ago)

(actually, does not even rock as hard as "mull of kintyre")

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:54 (twelve years ago)

shutout of steve miller band is also bogus dude

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 03:14 (twelve years ago)

future generations will scratch their heads, wondering how people of 2012 could have been so misguided as to think "tiger feet" rocks harder than "cat scratch fever" and "jungle love"

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 03:14 (twelve years ago)

and let's not forget the bone-shattering yamaha demo act VANGELIS and the earth-shaking riffage of 2:40 to 3:35 of "bacchanale"

shit is almost making me appreciate "stranglehold"

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 20 October 2012 03:16 (twelve years ago)

ooh you're so butch!

iglu ferrignu, Saturday, 20 October 2012 06:19 (twelve years ago)

don't mind a couple of noms getting vetoed where it made sense against the criteria, but what happened to:
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise
Yes - Siberian Khatru
Yes - Long Distance Runaround
Bola Johnson and his Easy-life Top Beats - Ezuku Buzo
Orchestre Super Jheevs des Paillotes - Ye Nan Lon An
