Aw, man...why you make me choose?

Probably Hagerty by a nose, largely because greater volume of output = more songs I love.

I haven't heard all of Hagerty's stuff, but I can't imagine any of it tops RTX.

easy herrema vote for me, aside from a few songs scattered here and there, hagerty's solo stuff doesn't do much for me

Apples and bananas (HA! - sorry, couldn't resist), but Hag takes this. His music has consistently delivered on the promise of Ornette- Coleman-as-rock-and-roller, and he consistently churns out these unique, brilliant records one after another with little fanfare, seeming to not really give a fuck. His non-music writing is terrific (but I, err, like William Gibson, so grain of salt there), his blog is hilarious, his art is superb - he's rock and roll's last genius. Am I a superfan? Yes, I am. I buy everything he does and if I was wealthy I'd buy multiple copies and give his records and books away as gifts because I believe in his work that much.

I love Jennifer, too, and I follow her work almost as closely - but her post Trux stuff hasn't been as compelling to me, even though I really liked the last Black Bananas LP.

none of hagerty's post-trux records really stick w/ me. they aren't unpleasant but they fall into that category of middling drag city stuff.... IMO. the RTX stuff isn't as inventive/exciting than the trux stuff by i could probably sing a few RTX songs right now...

flying assholes deeply otm here. & i thought amateurist said they fit into the category of "mid-morning drag city stuff", which is a nice idea for a catchall catagory for some of the breezier records. the howling hex are one of my favourite things around, for sure; the era when they were making three records a year & put out you can't beat tomorrow is maybe a highlight, but they're always really interesting & he's doing something really valuable and specific i think. the variety in terrain they cover's really great, too; from sweet pop like faithful sister & breakaway & stable to, y'know, all the hagerty on fire shit.

i'm maybe as dismissive of JH's stuff as people are NMH's; i like bits - the title track on western xterminator, & all the black bananas stuff i've heard - but it isn't commanding to me or urgently in need of repeat listens.
