If I start thinking about what music's on then something's going wrong anyway.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 26 September 2002 18:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone had mentioned Roxy Music's Avalon as being the college makeout album. I say the 90s equivalent is Moon Safari by Air.

I've not heard of Background, what do they sound like? :)

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 26 September 2002 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I believe the correct question would be, I've never heard of Background Love, what does their music sound like?

Joao Gilberto.

A.V. Alexandre (Keiko), Thursday, 26 September 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom's on the right track, tho. The more interesting question is what music actually ends up being played.

A.V. Alexandre (Keiko), Thursday, 26 September 2002 20:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Why "Triumph of Death" by Hellhammer, of course.

Yeah but what happens if you put on the Beach Boys and shes a Fennesz woman??

brg30 (brg30), Thursday, 26 September 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

My answer was somewhat cuntish cos this qn gets asked a lot.

The only times I specifically remember what music was playing was the first time I ever had sex (not saying what it was) and once when we had the Daphne And Celeste album on and I thought christ almighty I'm shagging to Daphne And Celeste, and it somewhat spoiled the moment for me.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 26 September 2002 21:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably not "Tonight's The Night"? I usually just get freaky to NPR... Terri Gross interviewing Peter Coyote is like oysters and red wine to me.

When I was 18 I used to put 'Closer' on. I thought it was softsounding and mellow, but then everything else I had sounded like the Cockney Rejects...

Aphex's Ambient Works 2 was a firm favourite as I recall. No, I have no idea why either.

Since this topic has been covered elsewhere, I will merely relate an odd story. I used to know a guy whose most constantly prepossessing sexual fantasy was doing the deed with a woman while they lay on top of a speaker the size of a mattress. Blasting out of the enormous, spongy mattress-speaker? AC/DC's Back in Black. He spoke of it often.

When last I had the opportunity :-( I found Cornershop's Handcream For A Generation and Dexy's Don't Stand Me Down to be surprisingly effective.

in a shamelessly transparent attempt to redirect folks to my dwarves thread... dwarves - let's fuck.

weighing in at an ergonomically astute 1'00", it's probably the most perfectly honed love soundtrack in existence. possibly.

mbosa, Friday, 27 September 2002 22:48 (twenty-three years ago)

twelve years pass...

I think you could make a pretty good compilation of long running length slow jams from soul and R&B of the 70s that were pretty much made for this purpose. I'd figure Isaac Hayes and Barry White are the big artists who specialized in this type of R&B but I think many singers of the era had tracks like this one.

I got wondering if there was a thread on this subject listening to the Isley Brothers 10 minute version of Carol King's "It's Too Late".
