Christopher Owens (from Girls) - Lysandre

i know a lot of ppl on the board hate this dude/band for some reason but i think this guy rules. this is his solo album, out in january.

I really like him, too. Was disappointed to see Girls go to hell, so this pleases me. And yeah, this sound promising.

for some reason i thought Girls was already one of those bands that's essentially a solo act for the guy. this is nice and doesn't sound particularly different.

I guess it pretty much seemes like Owens' gig all along.. So maybe not too surprised to see him back already, doing pretty much the same thing. But pleased. You never really know how important the supporting actors are, in getting stuff finished and so forth..

i think it even has some of the Girls band playing on it?

respect if the quitting his own band stunt was just him realizing how terrible a band name 'girls' is and trying to find some way out of it

What's with that recurring musical theme at the end of practically every song? Is this meant to be like a Roger Waters solo album or something?

i really liked that nyc song, but nothing else on first listen, and hammering home that it's a concept album by playing the same lick at the end of every song is pretty dumb.

I am still digging this record, although I really think it would have worked better as an EP, in that it would have been a better/quicker way to introduce himself as a solo artist. Then he could have released a full on album. But, I am big fan of his, so nevertheless I am interested to see where he goes next.

The first song he released is honestly one of the worst songs I've heard in my life. I think it's called Selfish Feelings. Is the rest as bad as that?

i like that song fine but I really dig "Music of My Heart" and "Coffee and Tea." i love the super-saturated and fast flanger sprinkled in throughout the record.

I'm impressed that "Selfish Feelings" is honestly one of the worst songs you've heard in your life since it's a pretty straightforward pop song, maybe a bit of new wave, some idiosyncratic delivery but nothing offensive about it at all to my ears. Reminds me a bit of John Cale (the song, not the voice). I think Lysandre was great, can't figure out if A New Testament was almost as good or better, and I'm very much looking forward to hearing this when it gets a proper release in August.

The vocals are ear splitting. I tried getting through it a couple times, but the bit where the music drops out just destroys the song.

Yeah, I guess it's just a weird coincidence. I guess she's just the kind of person that people write songs about, even if they don't actually know them that well, as it seems Ezra didn't (apparently he sat next to her in a college class).
