Skooter, or how i stopped worrying and learnt to love getting stoned and sitting in my mates bedroom listening to really loud happy hardcore

ok, so who else remembers when skooter were actually really really really good? they marked a turning point in my life, 'endless summer' is more special than ANY pop song you schmindies can throw at me in a vague ironic attempt to look like you are aren't as closed minded as your aislers set 7" collection may suggest. just kidding, but does anyone else fondly remember those mid 90's halcyon years of dreamcast or Warning tape packs and rave fliers on your older brother's bedroom wall? or were they just really crap and i'm looking at them like they were really good cuz i don't wanna be 20?

isnt it SCooter not SKooter? anyway, i always thought they were appalling, even when i had a mild interest in happy hardcore and hard house hybrids (92-95) - the only thing i quite liked was 'Move Your Ass' which was memorable if only for the cheesy lines 'RAVERS OF THE UNIVERSE! ITS NICE TO BE IMPORTANT BUT ITS MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE!'

Ultrasonic were better but no-one remembers them - i think they were a bit more successful in their native Ireland

blueski, Friday, 27 September 2002 11:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Ultrasonic were scottish, actually.

Memorable for shouting "this is the sound of the future" a lot, when it patently wasn't...

Jacob, Friday, 27 September 2002 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

i think i'm mixing them up with Ultracynic, what did they do?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:18 (twenty-three years ago)

'nothing is forever', that was it. good track, although not appropriate for this thread, obv

gareth (gareth), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

ULTRASONIC!!!! The main guy (Mallorca Lee) lives just round the road from me, or he did, his mum still lives there. Dunno about Darren. what about QTEX, QFX, "Freedom", Scooter at Saltcoats' Metro, and OLD FART TO THREAD!!!

david h (david h), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:49 (twenty-three years ago)

None more Scottish. Metro mainstays, Old Fart wrote something great on ILM about the neglection of the Scottish Mid 90s Dance Scene in the press, I dunno how to find it tho'. (Obv. I think all the music is rub, but it's nice to hear the names again.)

david h (david h), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Hangar 13 to thread!

david h (david h), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

cumbernauld posse in full effect!!! or something

gareth (gareth), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn, this music reminds me of my childhood!
Not that I heard a lot of it, but I went to a school with a large population of neds, and it was all they could talk about:
taking eccies, jellies, going to the rez, the fubar, drinking some bucky, listening to the sounds of the ultrasonic, mixing up the bass!
ttq, tdf, the shamen! the dancin'

see you ya wee dick, ahm gonna pure chib you! you guise ur a pair a fannies, man, pure fucking dafties, man

what do the neds listen to nowadays, eminem or something?

Anas FK, Friday, 27 September 2002 15:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Blueski, Skooter aren't Irish! It's just the whole fucking sovvy wearing population bought their single and they decided to re-do it and call it "Back in Ireland", hahah how embarassing.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan i said Ultrasonic were Irish not Scooter! but apparently i was wrong about that as well...oh well

i take it those who bought that track were also the ones who lapped up Delerium's 'Silence' enough to make that number 1 over there?

blueski, Friday, 27 September 2002 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah jesus, I remember being in HMV and seeing some guy barking delerium at the cashier, he was more beast than man I swear.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

It was Dreamscape not Dreamcast....

The Dreamscape tapes were like the Electro albums of an earlier age - a way to access a inaccessible scene of limited run hard to obtain 12"s

There was a legendary Dreamscape tape with Bukem, Dougal and a few others on it.
One of the djs dropped SUAD "Raving, I'm Raving" and at a certain point the MC shouted "Dreamscape" .... A friend of mine was in a club a few months later when "Raving I'm Raving" was played - at the exact same point in the record he told me a group of about 20 lads shouted "Dreamscape"! The tapes etched themselves into your brain like that.

OTM!

The amount of times I've tracked down a tune which was on a mixtape only to find I likes it half as much without the stoopid MCs!
