Don't like "Rhythm Nation" that much. Phil Collins, believe it or not, Taylor Dayne next. (I liked the Ninja Turtle song better than "Pump Up the Jam.")

clemenza, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 16:20 (twelve years ago)

top 3 pwn

Jody Watley is also good
Taylor Dayne has done better

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 16:21 (twelve years ago)

Pump Up The Jam

ENBB, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 16:26 (twelve years ago)

Technotronic (ft. Linda Ronstandt) would have been awesome

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 16:26 (twelve years ago)

No wonder I started listening to oldies radio a lot around this time.

Room 227 (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 17:49 (twelve years ago)

Cher - Just Like Jesse James

I have no recollection whatsoever of this song.

mod is my co-pilot (Pillbox), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:03 (twelve years ago)

I only know "Jesse James" because Shadoe Stevens played it; otherwise its placing looks suspiciously greased with payola.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:12 (twelve years ago)

Technotronic in a landslide...

I'll take the jangle-jangle over the throb-throb (brg30), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:17 (twelve years ago)

I chose "Rhythm Nation."

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:17 (twelve years ago)

no way this is not fucking "rhythm nation"

idiot man-child (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago)

thought you were gonna say "No way this is not Lou Gramm"

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:28 (twelve years ago)

that new kids song haunted my childhood

idiot man-child (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:29 (twelve years ago)

i'm just sitting there trying to play mega man and blammo another round of the new kids christmas abortion

idiot man-child (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:30 (twelve years ago)

that's cuz you never heard the song in which Joey Mac, singing in his best Boston accent, writes a lettah to Santa Clauz.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:33 (twelve years ago)

are you kidding me? my sister had mad joey mac merch. trust me, i heard that song.

idiot man-child (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:35 (twelve years ago)

I had NKOTB earrings. I played the shit out of that Christmas tape.

ENBB, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago)

so happy my favorite Kid turned out to be the boring queer one

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:56 (twelve years ago)

Wait I forget which one is gay. Danny?

ENBB, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:57 (twelve years ago)

btw mine was Donnie. I LOVED him.

ENBB, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:57 (twelve years ago)

this ought to be Technotronic but "Jesse James" is one of my favourite songs, what can i do?

only Brod can judge me (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 19:13 (twelve years ago)

yeah i have a weird soft spot for 'jesse james', have weirdly crystal clear memory of hearing that piped in a kum's while spending hours staring at starter jackets. is 'everything' the last big jody watley hit? that taylor dayne backing track is some of the most generic 1990 shit you can find but it's got taylor dayne on top. that lou gramm vid might be the least dramatic 'dramatic' video ever, i thought the chick was jeanne tripplehorn at first. went w/ 'pump up the jam' over 'rhythm nation', w/ 'everything' over 'don't know much' for third (both waaaay behind 'rhythm nation'). w/ the exception of cher i have no use for anything else here. wow was adult contemporary running the show.

balls, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:04 (twelve years ago)

"Everything" is her last top ten but the house-y "I'm The One You Need" hit the top twenty in '92.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago)

yeah the song's got some lol house signifiers (as does the vid) but it pretty limp overall, maybe a better vocalist might've been able to take it somewhere (taylor dayne?) but man not jody watley.

balls, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:27 (twelve years ago)

sometimes i'll think about phil collins and think "man, 'in the air tonight', 'i don't care anymore', 'i'm not moving', 'sussudio', 'easy lover', 'against all odds', 'take me home', 'one more night' - what my problem w/ this guy again?" and then, eventually, i'll remember "another day in paradise".

balls, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:31 (twelve years ago)

in other words, you'll think twice

da croupier, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:52 (twelve years ago)

if you don't vote for Technotronic, I don't know you.

thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:55 (twelve years ago)

bish don't kill my bosch (some dude), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 21:36 (twelve years ago)

better vocalist might've been able to take it somewhere (taylor dayne?) but man not jody watley.

she's totally flat

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 21:48 (twelve years ago)

The 1980s really didn't end until 1991, did they?

Your Favorite Album in the Cutout Bin, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:56 (twelve years ago)

when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" hit the top ten.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:57 (twelve years ago)

The only one I don't care for is the Taylor Dayne one. Even that cheesy NKOTB song is okay. But voting Phil Collins.

jetfan, Thursday, 15 November 2012 00:39 (twelve years ago)

Although mostly forgotten, the Cher song is almost as gloriously cheesy as her early '70s hits: "I'm gonna shootcha down Jesse JAY-AAAMES!!!". But it's not better than "Pump Up The Jam".

chris_coolidge, Thursday, 15 November 2012 00:46 (twelve years ago)

"Just Like Jesse James," which I'm listening to now, sounds like a precursor to 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up."

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 15 November 2012 00:48 (twelve years ago)

The 1980s really didn't end until 1991, did they?
assuming based on the date, all 10 songs were released in '89

the children of the world

billstevejim, Thursday, 15 November 2012 06:33 (twelve years ago)

oh man I have been carrying around that Lou Gramm song subliminally for years and years for it to be just released back into my conscious mind upon opening this thread

but yeah Technotronic

my CHR station played "Just Between You and Me" around the clock in the fall of '89 but it has vanished.
