Some Of My Favorite Records To Listen To In 2012 by Scott Anthony Seward

Some are old. Actually, most are pretty old. What the hell, I’m getting old. Some I have owned for years. Some I heard for the first time last week. Every single one of these records is worth hearing at least once. Probably. So if you are looking for something new to hear, listen to one of these. Money back guarantee. Five stars are Skot canon and will be buried with me in my tomb.

Love the Wendy Waldman.

Chris Squire – Fish Out Of Water (Atlantic)

Kinda curious about this one. The New Rolling Stone Record Guide (1983) gave it a higher rating than any Yes record.

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 18 November 2012 06:45 (twelve years ago)

10cc mood lately?

nostormo, Sunday, 18 November 2012 10:59 (twelve years ago)

If you've got all that Gryphon you don't have the Magpie appearance do you?In visual form that is.

Been regretting losing my 2fer of the 1st 2 whenever that happened, the Sanctuary compi jumbles everything up chronologically.

Stevolende, Sunday, 18 November 2012 12:00 (twelve years ago)

"Fish Out Of Water" is the one Yes solo project i listen to the most.

Loo Reading (Capitaine Jay Vee), Sunday, 18 November 2012 14:38 (twelve years ago)

printed this list for listening over the next few weeks

utubed a couple tracks by starstruck, pretty damn good thudd. didya know that ramjam of black betty fame were originally called starstruck?

streaming "liquid love" by freedie hubbard now, suitably squishy fusion, sounds funkier than his cti stuff so far so good

thanking you, sir

the starstuck record is fun. sounds great on the hi-fi. the real gem of a similar vintage is that full moon album up there. more psych than metal but also heavy. don't know how hard it is to find online. its not on youtube.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 15:44 (twelve years ago)

great cover too if you ever see it.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 15:48 (twelve years ago)

basically cosmic doom.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 15:48 (twelve years ago)

Is that Silvetti a full LP or just the single? One of my favorite Salsoul tracks, and one of the most overlooked as well. (See also, Orlando Riva Sound - "Moon Boots").

henry s, Sunday, 18 November 2012 15:57 (twelve years ago)

Good to see Max Webster (the thinking man's Triumph/drinking man's Rush) up there. Gonna have to dig out my old vinyl copy of Million Vacations today.

henry s, Sunday, 18 November 2012 15:59 (twelve years ago)

Ambrosia! Nice, nice. Very nice.

henry s, Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:02 (twelve years ago)

that's the silvetti album. i think i sold the 12 inch to a japanese dealer? i can't remember. i love silvetti.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:25 (twelve years ago)

this is for M.Coleman! i just put it up on youtube since it wasn't there. a thick slice of 60's Ohio psychedelic soul courtesy of Jerri Jackson and the Sacred Mushroom.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:26 (twelve years ago)

been playing that single a ton the last couple of weeks. doesn't get much more heavenly for someone like me.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:27 (twelve years ago)

What is a good list! You had Millennium and Ambrosia and The Four Tops!

โตเกียวเหมียวเหมียว aka Italo Night at Some Gay Club (Mount Cleaners), Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:36 (twelve years ago)

i finally got a clean copy of the milennium album. i would see not so great copies from time to time priced too high and i wouldn't buy them. wanted one for ages. and i do love the 3 cd thing with all the demos and stuff. i've played it like crazy for years. but man does it ever sound different on vinyl. just a revelation. a magic record if there ever was one.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:44 (twelve years ago)

i was going through stacks at home recently and for some reason i own four copies of the first ambrosia album...

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:45 (twelve years ago)

dreams, dreams, dreams by chilliwack also played non-stop on my turntable this year. man i love that album. i keep looking for the early chilliwack albums around here and nobody ever has them! gotta take a ride up to canada. and i want the pre-chilliwack collectors albums too but people always want too much for those when i see them at record shows and stuff. and i hate buying stuff online.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:49 (twelve years ago)

it was stuck out as a double cd with Lucille HAs My mInd Messed Up a few years ago by I think a dutch label, can't remember the name though.

Stevolende, Sunday, 18 November 2012 19:16 (twelve years ago)

i'll be honest, i rarely keep biker soundtracks even though they are inherently cool. they are always such nice things to put out in the store. but the naked angels album is one of those soundtracks that is just a really good album as album. couldn't part with it.

scott seward, Sunday, 18 November 2012 19:58 (twelve years ago)

i'm very happy to see starcastle in that list!

reggie (qualmsley), Sunday, 18 November 2012 21:01 (twelve years ago)

great cover too if you ever see it.

hahaha

i would expect to see an original pressing of an a&m sex pistols 7" than seeing anything like that round these parts ....

mark e, Sunday, 18 November 2012 21:12 (twelve years ago)

i've been going through a little bit of a gentle giant thing myself. was tempted to see "three friends," a band with some remnants of the original crew, but they priced me out a bb kings. to compensate i've been spinning the discs...

Thus Sang Freud, Monday, 19 November 2012 01:02 (twelve years ago)

yeah 2012 was a big gentle giant year for me. and multiple albums too. i pretty much like it all up to and including the early 80's album i was just playing an hour ago. uhhhh i'd have to get off the couch to check. or google.

scott seward, Monday, 19 November 2012 01:31 (twelve years ago)

you want to hear something REALLY crazy!!?? i got a beautiful 70's japanese pressing of piper at the gates of dawn this year and it was the first time i had ever heard the studio version of astronomy domine!!!

i've been listening to that album since 1978. but always courtesy of a nice pair (which has the live version on it). i've never heard it on cd. i've had american 60's tower copies of the album but they don't even have the song on that version. so, 34 years after i became a fan...

but anyway it flipped me out. i didn't even know what i was hearing. i was born again. holy toledo.

scott seward, Monday, 19 November 2012 01:35 (twelve years ago)

japanese copy is my keeper forever. so amazing. same with the german pressing of satanic majesties that i'm playing right this second. its godly. and now same with the pristine first french pressing of funhouse i got this week. again, jawdropping. i have a nice canadian pressing of funhouse but the french beats the canadian. like they always do.

scott seward, Monday, 19 November 2012 01:38 (twelve years ago)

Really enjoying making my way through this list; thanks for posting it

Evan R, Monday, 19 November 2012 17:50 (twelve years ago)

I had a similar live/studio/A Nice Pair mindfuck with that song. For a while, I still preferred the live (Ummagumma) version, but the mono studio kills everything.

xp

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 19 November 2012 17:52 (twelve years ago)
