This will of course be the greatest album ever made. Or not. But it should be.

"Vince Taylor" was good live.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 00:44 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

He was on Jools Holland's Hootenanny..

Mark G, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 10:33 (twelve years ago)

any good? Because that new song and video is actively bad.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 13:32 (twelve years ago)

New song sounds like a super dull "Hey Joe" re-write.
His get-up in the video is killer, but he appears to be doddering around like he's lost or confused.

Shame. Was hoping this would be fun!

Did this make the rounds here? http://www.retronaut.com/2012/09/the-fantastic-adventures-of-adam-ant-1981/

I first saw it on EZ Snappin's tumblr. It's...something.

two weeks pass...

Anyone picked this up yet?

Positive and negative go hand it hand, it seems.

First album over 30 years without his songwriter buddy Marco Pirroni, which has to have had an effect on the songs.

I really loved his Live at the Bloomsbury fanclub CD, though that, admittingly, only contained renditions of some of his classics.

This is on Spotify. It's pretty rough. Like listening to a friend's demos.

Eyeball Kicks, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 20:47 (twelve years ago)

I'm sorry to hear that but not surprised. That first single was so embarrassing I've been afraid to check out anything else.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 20:50 (twelve years ago)

I mean, it really is like a friend's demo. Not necessarily worthless. But it does sound like it was recorded in his bedroom, which is pretty common nowadays except that this sounds like he did it in his bedroom on a 4-track in the 1990s.

Eyeball Kicks, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 21:07 (twelve years ago)

the year-end countdown was boring me so I thought I'd give this a try. There is no way I'll make it all the way through. 5 songs in and I haven't been able to make it past the 2 minute mark yet. Egad.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 21:08 (twelve years ago)

I feel like I will get depressed by just listening to this. Poor guy.

Ulna (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 21:13 (twelve years ago)

I feel horrible for both him and myself as I listen. And he blew me away with his live show a few months ago! This feels so wrong in so many levels.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 21:17 (twelve years ago)

I was hoping for something more cohesive myself, and maybe something more original too. Granted, except for the Friend or Foe album and the occasional song from Strip, I never cared much about his solo career. But now that the pirate theme and the concept of to drummers has returned, I expected something a little bit more fun, in the vain of Adam and the Ants. I never expected it to be as good as that group, obviously, but I didn't expect it to be this bland and messy either.

Still like his voice though. There is that, I suppose.

Sebastian (Royal Mermaid Mover), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 21:25 (twelve years ago)

There is one keeper, "Vivienne's Tears". It has decent bones, and someone other than Adam could probably shape it into a solid song.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 21:31 (twelve years ago)

I know it's not exactly new, but really, nobody likes "Who's A Goofy Bunny?" I don't dislike this album at all, thus far.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 01:12 (twelve years ago)

Nope. Vivienne was it for me. Sadly.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 01:24 (twelve years ago)

Before hearing this, I wanted to like it. After hearing it, I want to go back to that previous state.

glenn mcdonald, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 03:19 (twelve years ago)

Apparently this is number three in the mid week album chart.

I'm tempted to give a go on Spotify but this thread is really putting me off. Maybe I'll just listen to the first two albums instead.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 03:27 (twelve years ago)

So, in at three and straight out?

Mark G, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 07:06 (twelve years ago)

Eight tracks into this and I'm already struggling. Dirty Beast is quite nice but apart from that nothing else has stood out. Some of it reminds me of those first five lo-fi Baby Bird albums, but no way near as interesting.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 12:08 (twelve years ago)

Number eight in the midweeks. Predict this will go straight into the charity shop racks.

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Thursday, 24 January 2013 10:24 (twelve years ago)

I feel bad for the charity shops.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 24 January 2013 12:24 (twelve years ago)

This album sounds like it was mixed by an actual ant

'Separate Lives', by Phil Collins & Marilyn Manson (PaulTMA), Thursday, 24 January 2013 12:51 (twelve years ago)

Number three on Tuesday then eight on Wednesday, it'll be lucky to make the top twenty now. It would be an absolute crime if it went in any higher than last years Dexys album.

Made it to the end of the album, it's fucking dreadful. Who's A Goofy Bunny? was the only other passable song. Seventeen tracks, how on earth did this album get made?

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 24 January 2013 13:16 (twelve years ago)

i was just exposed to the cool zombie vid i think i have nerve damage.

with the stage setup's "bad talent show" vibe, i kept like, waiting for the bee girl to show up or some other pisstake.
