there are days when heartbreaker is my favorite but I think part of it is because of the video where she kicks herself in the face :D

I'm voting for "Someday," but I have come to the conclusion the "All I Want for Christmas is You" is the earwormiest earworm ever.

yeah the Music Box singles seem the weakest and most dated

Basically, there was "Vision Of Love" (when I had no idea who Mariah Carey was) and then there was "Shake It Off" (when I was surprised that Mariah Carey was still capable of making a song that I liked). And also "All I Want...", which I think totally passed me by when it was released but is an undeniably-solid Christmas staple now. And her Unplugged cover of "I Can't Live", which is apparently ineligible but which I found to be a moving and pleasantly restrained alternative to the vocal magic tricks she indulged through most of her career.

I loved "I'll Be There" at the time, and it still sounded fine when I heard it somewhere last week. It'd be a lazy vote, I know--she had some other good ones, but I'd have to go back and re-listen some.

Fantasy > Honey > Heartbreaker. They're like diminishing returns of the same song.

And her whisper-to-loud-in-the-same-word singing in "Heartbreaker" makes it almost unlistenable.

I love "Honey" too but kinda feel like the ODB remix of "Fantasy" retroactively rendered it redundant.

I heard "Dreamlover" on the radio today and man, I really underrated it upthread. love the way she does harmony whistlenotes that basically operate like a synth riff on that song.

AIWFC deserves the over-exposure and relative 'classic' status for a semi-recent holiday song, utterly perfect pop song.

i still find it hard to believe 'all i want...' is a mariah original. it feels like it's been around forever.

I remember Sasha Frere Jones (I think it was) writing a few years ago how it is the only song from the last three or whatever decades to legitimately become part of the holiday canon. That, and there have probably been enough covers by now that many assume that Mariah's was just a cover as well.
