I've loved his playing on stuff like Frisell's Blues Dream album for years. Haven't been able to find anything where he plays a more prominent role until now though. He's based in Denver, which I can only assume has a lot to do with why he's basically unknown. I've been looking regularly at Amoeba Music for any of his albums for forever and I've NEVER SEEN A SINGLE COPY. That's how unknown he is.
Found the album 3ology With Ron Miles on spotify last night. I think it's the best jazz album from the 2000s that I've heard. If you like jazz and you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor and check it out.
Also heard Todd Ayers with Ron Miles- Live At The Mercury Cafe, which was also very good, despite being an acoustic guitar/trumpet duets album, which I wouldn't have guessed I'd like.
Anyone heard any of his other stuff? Any recommendations?

He's from around Denver and Boulder, no? Heard him live on the radio and thought he was awesome. Been meaning to catch him live in person for a while but haven't managed to do so yet.

I think he was last discussed on this thread: "You already know how to play. Now play wrong and make THAT right": Jazz D-Bags Thread 2010

Oh, should I have posted this there? I searched for existing threads, but it seems there's another jazz trumpeter named Miles who gets discussed a lot- made it hard to find anything about this one.

Ron Miles plays a key role in the new documentary about Ginger Baker, Beware of Mr. Baker, because he**SPOILER ALERT ***was part of the house band at Ginger Baker's Polo and Jazz Club in Colorado that eventually came to New York and played for Max Roach.
