Hardcore is still going strong, although not as the "music for millions" it was in 1994. As far as the "scene" goes, it is more or less split between the early/mid 90s old school hardcore sound and the modern hardstyle sound. Although these differ quite a lot, there's a big overlap in DJs, producers and audience. I haven't really followed everything, but a dose of hardstyle now and then (in the form of livesets) is pretty satisfactory.

the mescalinium united 'we have arrived' is ok, but that ep 9well, the r&s vers, not the industrial strength) has far better tracks on there (the mover presents frontal sickness - illuminated (best track of the 90s) and trip commandos energy tanks, neither of which are on this cd sadly)
ace the space 9 is a classic is excellent, but which mix i wonder, the 12 i've got has 6 mixes on, all very good
jones & stephenson(!) surprised to see this on here. this was a bonzai 12" and although its grimly hedonist dystopia kind of fits here, i'm still surprised by its inclusion (more of a steroid trance tune than the pcp utilitarian mania

Of the tracks I recognise Source Code's and French Connection's are a touch slower than the nose-bleed chaos of Stunned Guys, and everything the chilling hand of Marc Acardipane touched ie Turbulence, Inferno Bros, Pilldriver, are dark brooding masterpieces. Problem I have with these ID&T comps is all tracks are edited to fit.

Marc Acardipane has been finally accepted back into the fold of "serious techno" -- Tresor are releasing "Frontal Frustration", an album by The Mover, in November-- the label's A&R Marc Snow told me "these tracks almost made me cry"!
that thunderdome line-up looks like it's got a lot of classics but also like you'd have to wade through a fair amount of by-rote gabber.
i wonder if that is really the same Ectomorph...
