anyone heard this label retrospective thingy i saw in kim's the other day? worth spending my 25 dollars on or what?

As I mentioned in another thread, I picked this up recently and have been enjoying it if for nothing else than a good one-stop compilation of a bunch of material I've previously enjoyed. Still, there are a number of tracks that are different versions than appear on the albums (the Buzzcocks one was a nice rough variation of the version that I know). For some of the artists I would have picked different tracks, but all in all I'm pretty happy with it, even though it was $52 Canadian at Sam's. Hell, it's probably worth it just to have a CD- quality copy of The Normal's "TVOD".

By the way, I'm assuming you're referring to the four-CD 25 Years of Rough Trade Shops compilation, which is actually a retrospective of the record store, not really the record label.

Yes it is! It's a pretty tough job to chronicle 25 years of independant music (I think that's what they're trying to do), but they've done a decent job of including some unexpected stuff amongst the usual suspects (Pixies, Smiths...) . Nice to see Boards of Canada, Plastikman etc in there. Naturally such a diverse collection doesn't hang together that well as a seamless listen, but it's worth having just as raw material for mix tapes.

The compilation is on heavy rotation down the vicarage. It's an enjoyably eclectic collection, old faves mixed in with novelty tat like 'There goes concord again'.
