Truant. In part, I think, because it is the first time he (overtly?) acknowledges his great debt to Faithless. And I mean that in a nice way.

I'd say it's between Ashtray Wasp, Truant, and Rough Sleeper. The suite-like format that he's working in lately has broadened the scope of the now-signature Burial sound in surprising ways. It's as if the listener can now hover above the city instead of being confined to ground level.

It's interesting the way Ashtray Wasp eventually turns inward and zeroes in on a more intimate vignette toward the end. Truant is exquisitely sequenced with a wonderful sense of momentum and a great interplay between light and dark. Rough Sleeper contains sublime passages and previously uncharted euphoric heights.

Also have to give a shout out to Loner, which really took me by surprise and could kill a dancefloor. And to Paradise Circus; which - along with Four Walls - laid a lot of the groundwork for his new sound (and highly recommended for sexual purposes).

wow, that's a lot of tracks I didn't realise he'd released. I like Kindred so much, possibly above Archangel.

Apart from the Thom Yorke-stuff and Nova which I thought were a bit bland, the whole list is high quality throughout.

ashtray wasp and rough sleeper are the two best ones

truant/rough sleeper work well together, as a whole. rough sleeper feels all the more special, succeeding truant, rather than as a standalone track. the ep feels like one long, sweet progession.

NYC has a great melancholy vibe. Could Loner really "kill a dancefloor" ? i think there's too much reverb on it.

I went for Moth but I actually think I prefer Loner. I think it could definitely kill a dancefloor in the right circumstances. I saw Kode9 play Street Halo in a club not longer after it came out and it totally worked

Potentially Ashtray Wasp...yeah, listening to that track again now, and fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck it's incredible ('I belong to yoooouuuuu....'...that hilariously poignant piano/glass-tinkling coda...). Yeah, Ashtray Wasp. Moth in second maybe.

Judging by these results, ilx is a huge fan of Kindred overall.

Ashtray Wasp is a worthy winner... I don't quite get all the love for Moth. It's pretty, it's well constructed. But a bit like wallpaper to me. I never feel much need to revisit it.
