We had this one class at school called 'All Kinds Of Popular Music' and that was the song I brought in one week :)

Obviously it must have been the greatest song that had ever been played in that class because the teacher was pretty much speechless when the song finished.

i had this on cassette in my car for years and years, just like an old friend, and every single time Eight Miles High ended and I heard two notes of GGMM, I felt like I was getting slapped awake. It's so unpleasant!

See for me this cover of GGMM is the last track of an awesome EP (Out My Way) so it's like a well-earned goof off session for the Pups rather than an isolated irritation. (NB I am assuming this GGMM is the same one that ends Out My Way, maybe it's a different recording?)

That would explain it -- imagine if this was the only Meat Puppets song you had ever heard. You would prob hate it too! It's so annoying!

i don't have this comp, so i only know the handful of tracks where i own the band's album. i like the Meat Puppets' take on it, though, i think it's suitably deranged.

Aggggghhhh the baby song should be burned. Still, even if you love the MP with superhuman strength, how could that be the best song on this compilation?

kinda shocking to me that there's not more love for 8 miles high here. that defined the feeling of something emerging at my high school - I'd hear it on college radio and feel like something new was happening, something that, for once, we weren't going to have to hear about in the NME first.

i voted for it! i already loved the byrds version when i heard the dü version and it was like a magical gift from noise heaven -- that's why GGMM sounded so awful right afterward.

Aero I think the reason ppl aren't talking more abt 8 Miles High is bc everyone assumes it's gonna win so no advocacy required. Like I p much know I have to vote for it if I'm voting my conscience but my performative self keeps telling me to vote for something less obvious.
